Blanking by ‎SaripBB[edit]

‎SaripBB blanked sourced contents without valid explanations. The description is about historical names of King cherry and every sentences are sourced by reliable sources. The controversy regarding King cherry is a primary focus of this article, so it deserves in the lead. Removal of sourced contents by 61.42.244.13[edit]

An IP 61.42.244.13 removed a description However, in Korea, king cherry is still believed to be the same species as Yoshino cherry.^[1]. The IP came from South Korea, so the user should fully know the situation in Korea. The following majar media support the description above. More importantly, Korean word wangbeojnamu doesn't distinguish King cherry and Yoshino cherry. Although I regulary watch the Korean news reports, I have never seen a report which says the two cherries are different species. A Yonhap news^[2] suggested the difference between the two cherries, however it calls the both cherries as wangbeojnamu and calls Yoshino cherry simply as "cherry trees brought from Japan". It never says they are different species. So I restored the description with the following additional source.

In 1995 DNA fingerprinting technology was used to conclude that Yoshino cherry grown in many parts of Japan under the name Prunus × yedoensis is indeed clonally propagated from the same hybrid offspring of Prunus lannesiana (Oshima cherry) and Prunus pendula (Edo higan), which confirms the 1991 conclusion given by Iwasaki Fumio that Prunus × yedoensis originated around 1720–1735 by artificial crossing of these species in Edo (Tokyo). Oshima cherry is an endemic species found only around Izu Islands, Izu and Bōsō Peninsulas not around Korean Peninsula.

In 2007, a study conducted on the comparison of Japanese Yoshino cherry and Korean King cherry concluded that the trees native to these two places can be categorized as distinct species. It was confirmed that South Korea's claim was false.

In 2016, the phylogenetic analysis of nrDNA ITS data and the cpDNA haplotype network analysis suggested that independent origin between King cherry and yoshino cherry, respectively.

In 2016, a new scientific name Cerasus × nudiflora was given to King cherry to distinguish it from Yoshino cherry (Prunus × yedoensis). 2400:2410:8182:A00:B0E9:FD33:763C:D305 (talk) 06:11, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Jeju flowering cherry[edit]

Brett Cox: This is a bit complex story. There were two species Prunus x yedoensis (Yoshino cherry and King cherry, Korean official name: Korean flowering cherry)[1][2] and Prunus x yedoensis f. nudiflora (Eishu zakura, Korean official name: Jeju flowering cherry).[3][4] Recent studies split Prunus x yedoensis to Prunus x yedoensis and Prunus x nudiflora. Prunus x yedoensis f. nudiflora is unrelated to this change. Please read History section of this article (In 1908 and In 1932). There is no Korean official response to this change yet. So calling Prunus x Nudiflora Jeju flowering cherry is wrong.―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 23:40, 16 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
