Stub or disambiguation page?[edit]

Do you believe this stub has potential to grow into a full-featured article, by showing features of programs that are not in computer programs? If not, I'd suggest to turn it into a disambiguation page, or even better, merge it into Program. Diego (talk) 13:03, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I envisage this to be a short article that highlights the fact that there exist programs that are not computer programs. I know there are people who claim that any program executed by a machine is a computing program, but that is another issue. Of course somebody might turn this into the kind of article you asked about; that is beyond my control. I don't understand how this might become a disambiguation page. Except for the examples (Jacquard_loom and program file), the info contained now in the article will fit as one entry in the Program disambiguation page. Diego (talk) 15:11, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It may be more useful if this article explicitly excluded computer programs. Mitch Ames (talk) 11:42, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling of program[edit]

The international standard spelling of "program" when referring to computer application software etc. is the same in UK & US English, so that the -mme spelling in that context, although sometimes used in UK English, is technically incorrect. However in any other context, such as a radio programme, it should always be spelled -mme in UK English. (e.g. see Wikipedia:Manual of Style (spelling), Larousse Dictionary of Science and Technology and other dictionaries) I will try to find a reference for the international standard. This should be recognised in this article and the disambiguation page. GilesW (talk) 13:22, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Programming Language[edit]

A useful article, but ... the term "programming language" is unnecessary and leads to discussions with the artificial language people regarding the pins on music box drums... I've deleted "language" and added "machine readable" for the list of instructions. Added "or device" as not many people have "machine" generalized to extend to thermostats. 69.106.237.145 (talk) 04:43, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(more) "just devices which allow their users to select among a fixed set of a variety of options" does not determine programmable or not, selecting an option can be setting a parameter of the program.69.106.237.145 (talk) 05:09, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(still more) Don't forget Numerical control. 69.106.237.145 (talk) 05:29, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is this rule mandatory or not?[edit]
