Bluffton[edit]

I discovered an interesting tidbit in Preston in "UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA STUDIES IN LANGUAGE, LITERATURE, AND CRITICISM NUMBER 6 NEBRASKA PLACE-NAMES BY LILIAN LINDER FITZPATRICK, A.M." (see the "1925 edition" of this citation copied from the current version of the article: "Fitzpatrick, Lillian L. (1960). Nebraska Place-Names. University of Nebraska Press. p. 120. ISBN 0-8032-5060-6. A 1925 edition is available for download at University of Nebraska—Lincoln Digital Commons.)" Here's the tidbit, found on page 120:

The station at Preston was originally called Bluffton, and the post office Sac, on account of the close proximity of the Sac and Fox Indians. Shortly after the town was platted, James S. Eatough, a storekeeper, suggested that the name of both the station and the office should be changed to Preston, in honor of his former home in England.

I don't have the time right now to put this well-cited fact into the article, but I'm hoping someone else can make this change. -- RobLa (talk) 19:17, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
