First effective concrete[edit]

Should have a source for this. There is proof of pozzolanic concrete in Greece c. 500 BC, where the volcanic ash may have come from Greek Islands.[1]Tvbanfield (talk) 19:05, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sophia Loren[edit]

If you look up Sophia Loren, the article says she was born in Rome and grew up in Pozzuoli. This article says that she was born in Pozzuoli. I have always heard (from Italians in Naples) that she grew up in Pozzuoli.

I would like some images of the sunken ruins that are in Pozzuoli Harbor.

Would you believe I've been searching for and have not found any images.

Sunken Temples[edit]

In 1969 or 1970 there were Bradysiesmic events at the harbor. The harbor floor rose to the surface. Two or three Roman Temples slowly rose out of the harbor. They had sunk about 79AD. I know that the city had the harbor dredged and made deep again using explosives. Does anyone know what happened to those Temples? There are two articles on this event with photos in Time and Newsweek in 1969-1970. This article fails to mention this amazing event. Some vulcanologists believe the magma chamber under Mt Vesuvius moved west causing the harbor floor to rise. This same phenomena happened in nearby Capri turning Capri from a peninsula into an island. Why is there no mention of this Earth moving event?

Origin of name[edit]

All the histories I have read of Pozzuoli in several languages attribute the name to the presence of small wells, Puteoli in Latin, in the vicinity. The Italian, Latin, Napulitano, German and Spanish language Wikipedias (the only ones I have checked) confirm this. A quick search in Google seems to show that this predominates, so it should be mentioned - there is no shortage of sources. Hohenloh⁺ 14:09, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
