Resection (Surveying)[edit]

The article Resection (orientation) describes positioning by measuring angles only. With the introduction from Total station the aspect of measuring distances to the known points is missing in this article. The three Manufactures of Total station:

referring in their User Manuals to Resection as method of calculating a position of a Total station by measuring angles and distances to a minimum of two known coordinated points. There is an article in German Wikipedia, I would translate with "Free Survey Station Selection" see Freie Standpunktwahl

The idea would be to create an new article for Resection (surveying) and add it to the redirect list of Resection. The article Resection (orientation) is referring to a method used in mapping and by far not as accurate as it is achieved with a Total station.

  • @Darwipli: While I agree that the surveying aspects should be more fully described, I think that could be done in the present article. I've renamed the article so that it's not restricted to orienteering. Also, I think the previous title suffix, "orientation", was unclear. Fgnievinski (talk) 01:04, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
