Highest Grossing Canadian-Produced film?[edit]

I assume you were not going to the movies in the 1980s?

Back in the 80s, we all knew that Porky's was the biggest Canadian movie ever, even though it was set in the States. I didn't see it personally; I was post-high school.

Bob Clark was resident here and had made Black Christmas which was loved and respected. When this movie came out, people were surprised to read that Clark was actually from the US. That had not been mentioned much before. Varlaam (talk) 18:56, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the contradictory statement and the second comment about Resident Evil: Aftermath due to the confusion as to its specific criteria for highest grossing Canadian film. It a joint Canadian and German co-production. While it may be higher grossing; it is not purely Canadian which detracts from the claim and success of Porky's. Also as long as we are discussing the matter; Porky's could actually be in third place, but due to a lack of information about Bon Cop, Bad Cop is not easily found and the mere note that Resident Evil surpassed Porky's does not automatically assume it holds second place in hard fact. Top grossing films use poor math as is and are not tracked well either; the current comment for Bon Cop, Bad Cop has a clear note about its contested position and states the last hard fact about its status. I have a source that says that "The Ontario Media Development Corporation announced yesterday that Resident Evil: Afterlife is now the most successful production in Canadian feature film history, with a worldwide box office of $280 million. It surpasses a mark set in 1982 by the long-reigning teen comedy Porky's."
