Two reservoirs[edit]

Pontsticill Reservoir was constructed downstream of the pre-existing Pentwyn Reservoir and the water surface of the two is continuous only at or near maximum water levels. Pentwyn is constrained by a submerged dam which emerges when the level of Pontsticill Reservoir falls. The given surface area of just over 1 sq km is for Pontsticill alone. The area of Pentwyn is an additional 39ha (0.15 square miles) (note this is my measurement - a separate source would be required to add the figure to the article).
