Redirect[edit]

What on earth happened to this page?!?! It is like empty!!! This page, poison oak, currently redirects to Toxicodendron which covers all of the urushiol producing plants.

I propose it redirect directly to the mane page on poison oak: western poison-oak. --Serge 07:42, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm. It doesn't actually redirect. Maybe this was already fixed? Instead it suggests one of the two plant species commonly referred to by this name, Atlantic Poison-oak & Western Poison-oak, and also provides a link to the Toxicodendron wiki. I think it's good as-is, unless there's confusion, or unless disambiguation is a better course...which I'm not sure it is.--Duff 22:43, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well it took 9 years, but I've made that change. A search for poison oak should go the species, not the genus. Barte (talk) 00:36, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And I've undone the change. There are several species commonly named poison oak, so the term is ambiguous, and pointing to any one of them is an error. Now the term redirects to a section that lists the different possibilities.
Another good option could be to restore this as a disambiguation page, and letting editors of the respective ~70 articles that point here to fix the incoming links. Diego (talk) 09:22, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at this anew, I agree. The redirect should go to the genus, as you've done, or to a disambiguation page if someone wants to undertake it. Thanks. Barte (talk) 14:52, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
