It's a piece of garbage

As cited in the article, 23 % of the effects actually work, and all the rest are promotional for the other version, consuming as much as 10 Gb for nothing. Basic functions such as blur and grayscale are actually watermarked unless you purchase the "plus" version as well, some require you to buy the "pro" version, and on and on. It's a highly non stable software, and it is quite honestly a fraud, the box itself doesnt give any mention that most its effects require upgrade, but once you open the box, everything, including the manual, is just about the update version.

I think 12 Ultimate its a piece of garbage, as well because they tout it to process "1920 x 1080/60i" yet it will not inport, capture or otherwise anything but up to 720 x 480! Now maybe it can... but four and a half hours talking to technical support and "activating" MPEG-4 seems still to not have produced a throughput of 1080i in any form! I was told you could "drag and drop 1080i into the editor" but so far all such files I've tried to do this with crash or lock up, not one has even begun to work! Version 9 stability

I'd like to first point out that I have been using Pinnacle Studio 9, which while easy to use has loads of bugs and malfunctioning features and I am extremely unhappy about Avid selling me this $#*^!. Second, I'd like to enquire if the later versions are better. I have actually been thinking of buying a more professional software such as Xpress or Liquid, but since those are made the same company that provided this crappy piece of assmatter, I am very skeptical about their quality and reluctant to buy more software from a company that has proven to be of poor standard. --194.251.240.114 06:22, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

This is not the place! But anyway, firstly, make sure you've applied any free updates as all versions of Studio have been awful on release but have generally stabilised with post-releases updates. I have been very pleased with Adobe Premiere Elements v1 - as well as being stable (apart from being completely intolerant of importing MPEG, but you should use DV AVI anyway), its capabilities are way beyond anything else for around this price - 99 tracks of video and audio, unlimited stackable effects on each track each of which have editable, keyframeable parameters. It isn't as easy to use as others though, and I even found it quickest to do a rough edit in Studio 8 first. Check the system requirements of the latest version carefully as it requires fairly modern CPUs (eg not AMD Athlon, which is why I'm stuck at v1!). Halsteadk 08:50, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Is Pinnacle owned by Avid? Really? As far as I can tell, they are entirely separate companies. I edit on Avid Media Composer. Years ago, I did some work on Pinnacle Studio. For about five minutes. This article seems to be very out dated.

Bonus Features

"Pinnacle is open to criticism for deceptive marketing practices because the company requires additional fees to "activate" numerous functions of the software. Functions available only after additional purchases include many of the special effects and title effects." This is an exaggeration of an inaccurate review in Personal Computer World. All versions of Studio since 9 have come with a "Bonus material" DVD. You can install this bonus material but have to pay to remove the watermarks. Nothing on this DVD is a "function". They are premade menus, titles, transitions and special effects. Happy with Studio 11 Ultimate with 64 bit Vista system

Based on my own experience I would recommend Pinnacle Studio. I am currently running version 11 Ultimate on a 64 bit Vista laptop with 4GB of ram and it works flawlessly. If you are going to buy it get the Ultimate version. The extra features are certainly worth it. You can save about $20 if you buy it at Amazon.com. It has not been on sale in a long time at Best Buy so you probably would not want to wait.

I have been to quite a few forums and from what I have seen and read Pinnacle Studio has the easiest to use interface of any movie editing program. It is very simple to use and the features are incredible. Studio Ultimate version 12 certainly seems to be the best so far, though I am not personally using it as version 11 is doing what I need.

I have been using Pinnacle Studio for years, I started with version 8 SE, then purchased version 9 Plus, then version 10, and version 11 Ultimate. I have tried Sony Vegas and Roxio Media Creator, but found them difficult to use. The criticism of the product’s past stability issues is absolutely true, yet Pinnacle has done a lot to address this problem. I ran version 9 on an older computer with Windows XP and had quite a bit of trouble. A lot of the trouble was due to my system. I added an extra internal hard drive and this really helped. Even with the bugs I produced some truly excellent movies. Version 10 was a big improvement as far as real time editing and fewer bugs.

My system was so outdated that I purchased a 32 bit Vista system specifically designed for video editing and installed 4GB of ram in the spring of 07. I was mortified to find that Studio 10 would not operate on a Vista system. I ordered an advanced copy of Studio 11 and it worked, but still had lots of bugs. Sometimes the menus would render, sometimes it would get a green screen. With great frustration I made some movies, but I could never be too sure of what I would get.

In the fall of 08 I purchased a 64 bit Vista laptop with 4GB of ram. I installed my copy of Studio 11 Ultimate in it and it has worked absolutely flawlessly. Not only does it work flawlessly, but it background renders so fast that there is no waiting for the processor to catch up. It is very fast at making a DVD as well. It compiles it in about the same time as the length of the video. Thus a two hour movie will take about two hours to compile and burn.

I have a Western Digital 1TB My Book Essential external USB hard drive that I keep my movie and picture files on. This works flawlessly and with ample speed for Pinnacle Studio. It's a great hard drive, not that it is necessary, my point in mentioning it here is to clarify that Pinnacle Studio works well with it.

I have been very, very happy with the performance of Studio 11 Ultimate on my 64 bit Vista system. A couple of weeks ago I purchased a copy of Studio 12 Ultimate for my 12-year-old niece. I’m not sure what system she’s using, but thus far she seems to be doing very well with it. Obviously if I thought bugs would be a major issue I would not have purchased it for a 12-year-old.

Pinnacle Studio 14

What's this I hear about Pinnacle Studio version 14? You can see clearly on their website an offer to pre-order v14. I just got v12 a few months ago, and I can't find any information on Pinnacle Studio 13. Anyone find anything to add to the article? --MasterOfTheXP (talk) 05:47, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

Dolby Digital 5.1
