Television pilots[edit]

I had removed three links to articles about pilot episodes. Prior to my removal, hey were a sublist under the Television pilot list item. I noticed a user reinserted Pilot (Prison Break episode) into the main list, which was then reverted. I thought I'd bring this up on the talk page, as a reiteration of my edit summary when I removed the pilot episodes: this is a disambiguation page and pilot episodes are not appropriate for listing here. Individual television pilots fall under the scope of Television pilot which in turn gets listed here. BigNate37(T) 18:09, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • There is no longer a list of pilot episodes of which we have wiki articles on in the television pilot article. I think they should be included in a sub-list on this page. Million_Moments (talk) 16:25, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That list already exists, here. Maqsarian (talk) 00:52, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: moved and redirect base name to Aircraft pilot -- JHunterJ (talk) 15:09, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

PilotPilot (disambiguation) – I'm going to go on a limb here and claim that the title Pilot should redirect to Piloting as a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT association. It seems that both of the concepts in Aircraft pilot and Maritime pilot are subtopics of the concept at Piloting, and the concept of the navigation-sense of "pilot" holds more long-term significance than Television pilot, Pilot light, or any of the other concepts listed at the disambiguation page. Steel1943 (talk) 18:26, 21 August 2020 (UTC) Relisting. JHunterJ (talk) 11:56, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree that the piloting in the navigation sense has the most long term significance. The problem I'm hitting is that I actually think the concept of an aircraft pilot is, in terms of usage and general expectations of the word, far more of the primary than the broader concept concept. And then after that I think people would largely be looking for the topics we agree have lesser long term significance, like TV pilots before the general concept. Few are actually looking for the page on the broader topic of piloting as a navigation concept, even if aircraft is a subtopic of that. So in terms of what is most useful to readers, I think having the current setup is probably best.--Yaksar (let's chat) 20:22, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The piloting article is rather sparsely viewed and doesn't contain much info relevant to, say, aircraft pilot, which is viewed 13 times as much, so I wouldn't expect most people searching "pilot" want to see it. And while television pilot might not have "long-term significance" in that sense, it beats aircraft pilot and maritime pilot in views handily. I think a DAB page is more appropriate than an article here. Nohomersryan (talk) 20:27, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Make Aircraft pilot primary. Yaksar is right that the expectation will be for the aircraft pilot to be primary, so let's meet the expectation. - WPGA2345 - 20:28, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect to Aircraft pilot. Clear primary redirect. In fact, probably best to move Aircraft pilot to Pilot. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:32, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Pageviews do not support claim based on usage. If anything, television pilot is primary based on usage, but because there are several other prominent uses a disambiguation page at the base name is best as that will help ensure incorrect links are fixed. olderwiser 15:16, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect Pilot to Aircraft pilot with a hatnote to the disambiguation page moved to Pilot (disambiguation), notwithstanding a possible RM to move Aircraft pilot to Pilot. I agree with others that aircraft pilot is the primary topic for "pilot". Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 09:57, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Nohomersryan. This isn't a good case for any PRIMARYREDIRECT to any one article. -- Netoholic @ 19:50, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment – I think it should redirect to aircraft pilot. The common usage of "pilot" is that of a pilot on an airplane IMHO. It could also refer to a pilot car. cookie monster (2020) 755 01:43, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Nominator comment: I'd be okay with Pilot redirecting to Aircraft pilot per the explanation in above comments. Steel1943 (talk) 03:55, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
