Changing the contents of this page[edit]

A user below commented that "This Article should be renamed to Pictometry International. Pictometry is a GIS imaging teqnuic whitch should be described separat [sic]".

I am in full agreement with this position. In fact, I came in and re-wrote the article to discuss the technology, rather than the company, but it was reverted back to this by wikipedia. If wikipedia could either change the name of this article to Pictometry International Corp. or allow users to write about the technology in this article and create a new article for the company, that would be wonderful. Does anyone know how I can go about asking wikipedia to make these changes? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.162.186.66 (talk) 14:37, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Is Pictometry—the technology—notable as defined in Wikipedia:Notability? Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL suggests that finding reliable sources that directly describe the technology will be a difficult task. I'll add a section to the current article that could be spun off as a separate article should it reach the point where it's demonstrated to be notable.
  • Before continuing, make sure you're familiar with Wikipedia's conflict of interest guideline. If you're a board member or employee of Pictometry International Corp., you should probably limit your editing to articles that don't discuss your company and/or technology. Additionally, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view means that articles about Pictometry—the technology or the firm—must include all significant viewpoints that have been published by reliable sources, regardless of whether those with a financial stake approve or not.

Daniel,

I am in fact an employee at Pictometry International Corp. I certainly understand that employees should be limited on how they can interact with their company's page in order to avoid bias. However, I believe that the edit I am proposing is not only appropriate, but necessary to accurately represent the company. If you could simply change the title of the article to the actual company name, that would be wonderful. I don't think it's unreasonable or slanted to ask for the company's article to have the correct company name. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to edit the page to reflect this. Would it be possible to change the article's title to "Pictometry International Corp."?

Also, I appreciate your offer of adding a section to the article regarding Pictometry's technology until notability can be established. If you could do that as well, I would be very grateful. Please keep me informed as to how I can help rectify the situation with the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.162.186.66 (talk) 20:32, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Windows Live Local[edit]

I believe Microsoft Live Local licenses images from Pictometry, can anyone verify this?

Yes The images in birds eye view is taken from pictrometry. May 08

An anonymous IP that is said to be registered to Pictometry keeps removing this fact from the article (this is the edit history [1]), however, with no explanation. I wish we could get some explanation - is it not true? - DavidWBrooks 19:09, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It appears to be true, and it keeps being removed without explanation. That smacks of vandalism to me. I don't know much about the protocols of Wikipedia, but someone should return the content to the article, and warn that IP.Salvar (talk) 18:42, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Darn, you're right - I hadn't noticed the last time it was removed, although it was months ago. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 18:45, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why doesn't anyone specify the PROCESS how these images are obtained?[edit]

Why does no one say HOW these pictures are taken? "Areial" - does it mean by airplane or helicopter? Or by satelite? This is really important, lots of people would like to know how these awesome images are produced like this!? --KpoT (talk) 17:40, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good point - it's airplanes, as I just added to the infro, taking out the "patented process" PR talk. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 19:20, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS note[edit]

Pursuant to VRTS ticket # 2011070510010884 — I have moved this page from "Picometry" to "Picometry International", a better descriptive term to indicate to the reader that the article is about a company, as opposed to simply a concept. Cheers, — Cirt (talk) 17:47, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
