MLS bid?[edit]

Is Phoenix Rising really making a bid for MLS membership? I can hardly tell from this article. There is an almost accidental mention of it once, and in the titles of some references. It is more prominent in the article about their stadium. 2600:8800:1880:91E:5604:A6FF:FE38:4B26 (talk) 23:36, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Homophobia Controversy[edit]

The section related to the Flemmings incident is far longer than anything else in the article. While it is newsworthy, newsworthiness doesn't mean that such an event should dominate the page more than, say, the fact that Phoenix Rising won their division and made it to the Championships match (which isn't even mentioned at this time). I'm going to pare down the section. Fitbawfoto (talk) 20:03, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I strenuously disagree with the way the section is pared down, since it deleted important information regarding how the management responded to the incident. In my opinion, this is tantamount to censorship, in addition to trivializing the problem of homophobia in soccer by rendering it a footnote. We are not Phoenix Rising's PR department (nor are we anyone's PR department), so I will restore some of the content. Kiteinthewind Leave a message! 20:02, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I understand the point that you're making, however you're also violating Wikipedia's independence rules. This is not censorship, as all the information is still contained within the sources. Wikipedia is not a news source. The event should be reported, with links to the event for people to research more information. It is not Wikipedia's job to act in a 'woke' manner nor is it to 'trivialize' an event. It is simply to present that the event occurred, not to express an opinion on said event. I don't see the need for any information on Brandon McCarthy, as he was not acting in a team role at that point, nor was he disciplined. Certainly his tweet is considered a primary source, but again, what information does that bring to the table? Is it 'news?' Or is it a material part of the event. You might as well have quoted Vanderplas or some other fan's tweet. In reviewing the information about McCarthy, the statement wasn't sourced. Too much fluff, not enough fact. Deleted "Phoenix Rising and McCarthy were known for LGBTQ+" .... by who? Because they had training jerseys? That statement was unnecessary and doesn't contribute to information about the event. Ask yourself, are you acting independently? Fitbawfoto (talk) 23:22, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Fitbawfoto, perhaps you should read WP:AGF and respect that rule, instead of assuming that I (or the site) have some hidden agenda. The info on McCarthy merely states what he said (and what he said is important, since he is a team co-owner), not whether or not his stance on the incident was right or wrong. Also, the part about him being known for his pro-LGBT stance was reported by a reputable third party, and sourced adequately. Also, your edits have distorted the sources that were cited. It was McCarthy (and hence, his opinion) who said the Loyals wanted to continue forfeiting matches to make a statement on social justice, and your edit made it as if that was a fact.
