Russell's slaves[edit]

According to this page his slave Jupiter was just 15 in 1800. Geo Swan (talk) 19:42, 9 January 2020 (UTC) https://www.electriccanadian.com/history/ontario/stories/chapter22.htm[reply]

Slave owner[edit]

@Peter Gulutzan: I don't know enough about Russell to indicate how much of his business it was, but it seems to me if someone buys and sells slaves, not just owns them, that it is a defining characteristic of the person. Otherwise, I am not sure about the Canadian slave owners category's validity. Maybe that should be a list instead? Alaney2k (talk) 13:24, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You don't know much about him but decided to categorize him anyway, eh? Dictionary of Canadian Biography http://www.biographi.ca/en/bio/russell_peter_5E.html has a long article which doesn't mention his slave-owning, which I think indicates how the biographer -- who apparently does know much about him -- didn't regard it as worth mentioning. If that was his job, if that's what he gave a lot of attention to, if he was famous at the time for it, if all the other things he did (e.g. writing a book) were less important, then you'd have defining characteristics as WP:CATDEF requires.
