Is it really fair to describe Leeson's account of pirates as describing them as "pioneers of democracy"? Leeson's point is that pirates didn't need the state--I think it would be fairer to see him as treating them as pioneers of anarchy. Individual pirate vessels may have been organized democratically, but I think that the article's description of Leeson's project may mischaracterize him politically. 66.215.220.180 (talk) 00:51, 5 July 2009 (UTC)garychartier[reply]
The source does support the statement. However, Leeson, as our article mentions, is an anarchist. Note, for example, the first block quote in the article.
