Multiple Issues[edit]

After stumbling upon this article, I couldn't help but notice some (what appeared to me) to be some really big issues with the article. I'm a newbie myself so I'm not incredibly versed in the way these things work but I did start digging through the wikipedia policies and manual of style. From what I understand, the article does appear to have substantial issues in but not limited to;

  • No sources or references cited or specified at all
  • Appears to need significant wikifying
  • Rather confusing to say the least
  • Major issues regarding grammar and tone
  • Offers predictons upon current developments with no grounds for said prediction, let alone a source for the prediction
  • Very little integration into wikipedia with a great number of posibilities for article linking ignored
  • Could benefit significantly from expert input
  • A lack of historical information
  • Requires extensive cleanup and completion
  • Reads like a tourism promotion document, or propaganda
  • Is anything but written from a neutral point of view
  • Not of a tone compliant with wikipedia articles
  • Reads like a very bad travel guide in some parts
  • Is incredibly biased
  • To be honest, I think it might need a complete and utter re-write

I filed an RfC for this as the last attention paid to the article appeared to be in 2009 and is part of the India WikiProject rather than a simple obscure article sitting on it's own. I also thought an RfC would be appropiate because as a newbie, I'm not terribly confident in being able to tackle something this big myself (yet), but figured there was still something that I can do to try "Be Bold"

Hopefully this helps and this article can be turned round and turned into something awesome ^^ Terkaal (talk) 10:48, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well I've had a stab at improving things, but all I've managed to do is drastically cut the article down. Very little of it was worth keeping, and I'm having trouble finding any sources to expand on the town's history, geography, economics, or anything really. It might be better to focus on Perambalur district where there's slightly more to say and slightly more sources to back it up.
I've removed the cleanup tags as the article is now so short nothing but {{expand}} really applies, and I strongly suspect the sources aren't there for that expansion to happen. joe•roetc 21:41, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Some of the removed material, like the list of colleges, would be proper for inclusion if we can be confident that it's accurate, but I have no basis for restoring it.
Terkaal, the issues you identified were properly dealt with through tags and through your detailed listing on this page of the specific reasons that you thought the article needed improvement. The RfC process is for dispute resolution, generally after an issue has been discussed on the talk page and the involved editors have failed to reach consensus. I suggest that you close this RfC as there is no dispute of the type appropriate to the RfC process. JamesMLane t c 13:11, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ah I wasn't aware that I had to manually close the request after :o Looks like someone beat me to it though hehe. I'll keep it in mind for the future though. Thanks :) Terkaal -- <Warning! Self-Confessed Newbie!> (talk) 05:24, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
