Very week Wikipedia entry[edit]

This is a very weak Wikipedia entry. I think he's a pretty tight and creative bass player for the time, especially fusing punk, ska, reggae, and yes, even dub styles into his technique. I play with a pick too, because I like it. Hasn't anybody ever said anything good about this guy?

This page doesn't seem to be citing a lot of its sources, and I feel it lacks the integrity of the other articles, such as Joe Strummer, London Calling, Guns of Brixton, or Combat Rock.

I hope that more Clash fans step up and improve the quality of this entry. I argue that the tightness and combined energy of these four musicians is uniquely contributed to by all (especially Topper Headon, imho)

This page needs to be updated[edit]

Paul Simonon is now a member of a new band, The Good The Bad And The Queen (sometime late 2006) and this article stops in the mid nineties. Also, as the other guy said above, this really doesn't do justice Simonen's contribution to the band.

Left wife?[edit]

I think this really needs some confirmation. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.34.14.101 (talk) 01:08, 25 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

It looks as if it's been a slow attrition by people doing minor edits (such as the one where Dale Winton became his wife and his godparents are Tony Blair and Oprah) and no-one really being enough in the know to sort them out. Almost no sourcing, too. --Crgn 16:53, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Paul's Personal life[edit]

Can somebody check that info on his wife? And I'm pretty sure his son's godfather is not that horrible Justin timberlake. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Yarbles75 (talkcontribs) 08:51, 1 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Incorrect Info[edit]

"Simonon only decided to write "Guns of Brixton" because he was jealous of the money the band's main songwriters, Joe Strummer and Mick Jones, were making in royalties, but it is now one of the band's most recognized songs."

I deleted this statement. It is unsourced, and doesn't sound like Paul. The Clash was never about money. Captain America 01:58, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know this doesn't count for anything, and I'm not saying that it's true, but I've definately heard that explaination before. I think it may even have been in the album book for The Clash: The Singles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.234.15.187 (talk) 08:55, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Paul's instruments[edit]

The section regarding Paul's individual instruments is unclear, uncited, and frankly, not very well written. I know for a fact that Paul currently owns two nearly identical white P-basses, both with "Paul" scratched into the body, for example (having seen The Good, The Bad & The Queen live).Jlee562 (talk) 23:44, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

real house hold name of Paul is S I M E N O N[edit]

In fact, Paul has been related with Belgian writer Georges SIMENON who had lived in Liège then moved in Switzerland where he died. I'm quite sure but not able to find something about this fact on the Net. However, I sent a message to The Clash's MySpace web site. I'm still waitng for a response but I think their website is unused since the death of Strummer in 2002. 62.88.93.81 (talk) 17:34, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Simonon ???[edit]

I think you might have to change to his real house hold name which is SIMENON related with the Liege writer Georges Simenon !!! http://images.google.be/imgres?imgurl=http://www.chelseaspace.org/images/riot_05.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.chelseaspace.org/archive/riot-images.html&usg=__HLirS9sS4AjCKJ4l0RWCMjLxeuM=&h=500&w=351&sz=24&hl=fr&start=7&sig2=uja2iZjaiOMwE6E7MOG5FA&um=1&tbnid=inLXA2n3kQSkgM:&tbnh=130&tbnw=91&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpaul%2Bsimenon%26hl%3Dfr%26um%3D1&ei=3fCvSq2WC8aL4QbN99SzDg

Supposed stroke[edit]

Not fully confirmed, only one news source has so far commented on it. I have heard rumors of Gorillaz denying it but I have not found any solid evidence on either side yet. [1]

Sunday painter[edit]

RE: Simonon was born in Thornton Heath, South London. His father, Gustave, was a Sunday painter I've changed 'Sunday painter' to 'amateur artist', for clarity. Unknown Unknowns (talk) 08:43, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Died 21 July 2022?[edit]

Under the background info it said he died on 21 July 2022. I can't find anything else about this outside of Wikipedia. I took the liberty of undoing that info since I cannot find any source that confirms his death.WikibastiAAN (talk) 20:33, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
