Photo copyright issues[edit]

Does anyone know the copyright status of the 1963 magazine Female Mimics cited here? It contains a number of photos of Morgan, and can be found on the Internet Archive. Does this mean that the copyright has expired, and this is in the public domain? -- The Anome (talk) 23:05, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I've searched for the name of the publication in https://exhibits.stanford.edu/copyrightrenewals , and cannot find a renewal. As I understand it, that list is definitive, and means this pre-1964 image is now in the public domain in the United States. I've now uploaded one of the images in the article to Commons, and included it in this article. -- The Anome (talk) 23:59, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Birth Name[edit]

User:Stephanie921 you have removed the birthname of Patricia Morgan in this edit: [1], stating in your edsum "Wiki policy states assigned names are not permitted on pages for people who were unnotable before coming out." I do not know this policy and cannot find it. Please could you link to it so as to ensure editors are aware of the policy. In this case, of course, it is debatable whether the information is notable, as this was one of the first people to undergo gender reassignment surgery, which means the very act of coming out made them notable under either name... maybe (not a lot in the article to go on tbh, so maybe not. It would depend on what was published). But I certainly don't want to put any information back into the article that is against a policy, so my reading that will be a helpful start. Thanks. @User:Sirfurboy will get back to you later Stephanie921 (talk) 17:19, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind, I have found it. The policy guideline is MOS:DEADNAME or MOS:NB. When removing such information from other pages, put "per MOS:DEADNAME" in the edsum and then other editors can quickly find it. However, in this case it does not apply. The policy is for BLPs (Biographies of living persons) or pages where the person referred to is living. There is no policy reason not to include the name on this page. However, before just reverting it back in, I will do some research because the question is whether Morgan was well known under the previous name. This would most likely be if there were coverage of the case before her name change. If there is no such notability, I will respect the intent of the guideline and leave the name out. And having now done some searches, I note that although Morgan is referred to by the previous name in some papers, that (a) many of those papers have issues with them and (b) they are all written after the name change; so on the question of whether Morgan was famous prior to that - I have found no good evidence of it. I think I will leave this discussion there, the article untouched, and walk away slowly.  ;) Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 16:36, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
