Merger with Santhome[edit]

IMHO, I do not think that the merger with Santhome needs to be carried out. This is because both Santhome and St. Thomas Mount are separate places in Chennai - hence they need not be merged. Let two articles exist. But because they seem to have a shared history, may be we can add a 'See also' reference to each other. The Silent Contributor 09:37, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do not merge[edit]

I'm from Chennai (Madras) and these two are very distinct places there. They are around 10kms apart with different other neighbourhoods in-between. In Chennai, there is no confusion between these two areas. I do agree, that "See also" may be appropriate because of the name relationship. 07:04, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Image:Stamp st.thomas.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Reference to Thomas the Apostle[edit]

@Francispotter There is in the first instance no credible evidence provided for the alleged fact that St Thomas the Apostle attained martyrdom here in Chennai. Etymology of parangimalai[edit]

Parangi in tamil refers to Portugese missionaries. From the records of a church in Trichy which had been administered for 400 years by Portugese missionaries, I have noted the word for Portugese missionaires used is Parangi saamiyargal . The word might be from Hindi Firangi meaning foreign. ST. Thomas mount also has a 500 year old church built by Portugesese and has many convents, so the name might refer to Portugese and not Sage Birungi. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aquinas87 (talk • contribs) 10:18, 5 October 2012‎

Article title renaming regarding[edit]

Parangimalai (பரங்கிமலை) in Tamil language exists and not in English. Whereas St. Thomas Mount in English is so called as பரங்கிமலை (Parangimalai) in Tamil language.

So, 'St. Thomas Mount' as the article title will be more suitable and hence it is to be considered.

Parangimalai is the native name and is also used widely and hence come under WP:COMMONNAME. Even the suburban railway station of the region bears the name officially. Rasnaboy (talk) 01:57, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
