The New Lena Zavaroni[edit]

Paulo is the Lena Zavaroni of the 21st Century. Born of a Scottish-Italian chip shop owning family, a tiny thing with a huge voice thrown up by a talent competition. Let's hope he doesn't share poor Lena's fate. The information in this article needs to be verified and to be writen from a neutral point of view. cherub voice[edit]

Paulo Nutini, although just making his debut in Australia, he has been out in Europe for a few months. Since than he has been compared to both James Morrison and James Blunt, MTV said in a european guide "He has a special, unique quiver to his voice!" He is not well known yet in Australia, with his single "Jenny don't be hasty" coming out, And his album "These streets" soon out in all retail markets. ka

Italian prominance?[edit]

In the very second sentence of the article: "His father is of Italian descent, from Barga, Tuscany and his mother is Scottish, although his father's family have been in Scotland for four generations." Seems to be pushing the Italian connection a bit to have it in the first paragraph when he's fourth generation. I would actually argue that its somewhat racist to mention this in the second sentence - and in the introduction, for that matter. Why? Because it simply doesn't matter. As long as it isn't necessary to know about his Italian descent to understand him as an artist or a public persona, it has no information value at all and stems from stereotypes. "His name sounds Italian, surely he must come from Italy? He is not? Well, maybe his parents are? No? Grandparents? Great-Grandparents? Check." Its like mentioning in an article about an African American that his family is of Ghanaian decent and moved to America generations ago. I would re(-move) the information... Relationship[edit]

Someone wrote about his relationship: "Paolo is currently in a long term relationship with Beth Howard, some random Scouse girl. When asked about her by the Daily Mirror, he replied lovingly; "Who? What the fuck are you talking about?" They plan to marry in the New Year, they have no children, but run a small Shire horse farm in the North of England." Legal Drinking Age In England[edit]

The Children and Young Person's Act of 1933 (Section 5) makes it illegal to give alcohol to children under the age of 5 unless by medical order. The Licensing Act of 1964 limits the purchase and consumption of Alcohol on Licensed premises to those aged 18 and over. The same law provides some exceptions, for example (Section 160D) permits persons aged 16 and over to purchase and consume certain alcoholic products in the eating area of licensed premises.

Chart infuence for "New Shoes" by Lena Meyer-Landrut[edit]

As User:Kintetsubuffalo accused me of spamming so I add this here for review:

In March 2010 Lena Meyer-Landrut, the later winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 in Oslo, Norway, performed "New Shoes" during the german preselection show Unser Star für Oslo causing the title to enter german charts peaking at #97 in March 2010[1]. A cover version of "New Shoes" was also later released as bonus track of her debut album My Cassette Player.

It is obvious fact that "New Shoes" was commercially pushed by her selection, just compare the correlation of chart entrance dates of "New Shoes" with the show performance dates. Without this "New Shoes" would not have charted in germany. Same happend with a number of other 'casting' show entries.
Also there are no advertisments as accused by User:Kintetsubuffalo. The only external link is well accepted in other discography entries as valid source for german chart history. Actually the same source WAS already present in the discography page.
The release of a "New Shoes" cover version by her in connection with a 2xPlatin certified album (My Cassette Player) is definitely more relevant than the use of other PN songs in various TV shows.
It seems a case of a jelous fan don't whan't to have 'his' page "spoiled"

Sorry seeing you simple minded accuse me of spamming. You obviously did't even read the changes you reverted.
There were no added advertisment or external links that you claimed. The only external link is also already present in the discography as it's the sole source of "New Shoes" german chart history. Same source is used in many other discography entries too, so it's obviously a serious accepted source. The other links are internal wikipedia links. So were actually did you see advertisment is not understood by me.
The facts are well checked. "New Shoes" entered german "commercial" charts ONLY because of Lena Meyer-Landruts pick in the show. The rerelease of a cover version by her is also complying with relevance criteria. Especially connected with an album certifying 2xplatin in Germany.

P.P.S.The fact that the added paragraph on Jasom Mraz and Paolo Nutini pretty much matches is that both were effected similarly. Lena Meyer-Landrut covered eight songs, five of those had verficable chart effects in Germany. Both covers were commercially released, so why making an entry for Literature Novel Price instead of just summing up the facts and references. First: Sorry if this was received by you as personal attack. I actually didn't meant you personally, but rather the act itself, which on my behalf still seems a bit overdone. Sorry again if my poor gramar made it more offensive than realy meant.
Observing your history list you seems to be not much afraid of collateral damage in your "war on spam" ;-)
Being accused of SPAM in conjunction with just factual edits was received by me also very personal, so let's call it quit.
Second: "she is not important on the others" - so just tell me why a listing of his song in this or that TV show seems more relevant. Fact is Lena Meyer-Landrut created offical chart influence (not just iTunes, but real official chart listings !) in Germany in favor of "New Shoes". This can be verified in the data bases, "New Shoes" peaked in Germany three years late and just after her pick in the show.
Also she rereleased a authorised cover version for a 2xPlatin certified album (OK, it's just a bonus trak yet, but you see the connection). Sound like relevant information to me.

Issues with Early Life Section[edit]

I know Wikipedia's guidelines say Be Bold when editing, but as an infrequent editor, I'd like to build a bit of consensus before making wholesale changes to Paolo Nutini's Early Life section. That said, the current content bothers me for a number of reasons...

I realize that chronology in a bio doesn't have to be linear if it conveys a sense of someone's life (or early life in this case), but the current details of Nutini's early musical milestones and activities don't seem to meet that criteria. At the moment it implies the following sequence:

  1. Nutini left school to work as a roadie and to sell t-shirts for Scottish band Speedway;
  2. Spent three years learning the music business and performing live;
  3. Worked as a studio hand at Glasgow's Park Lane Studio;
  4. Attended a concert staged by 102.5 Clyde 1 for David Sneddon's return to his home town of Paisley;
  5. Nutini moved to London and performed regularly at The Bedford pub

From the best references I can find, the actual sequence is more like this:

  1. (previously #4) Early 2003. age 15 Attended a concert staged by 102.5 Clyde 1 for David Sneddon's return to his home town of Paisley. There are plenty of references to this.[2]. Note that Nutini would have turned 16 on Jan 9, so if he truly was 15 and the event was 2003, it must have been the first week of January.
  2. (previously #1) mid-2003. I believe you have to be 16 to leave school in Scotland. Chances are Nutini left school in June 2003, though I can't verify this.
  3. (previously #1 and #3) latter half of 2003. It seems likely that Nutini immediately worked as a roadie and sold t-shirts for Scottish band Speedway after leaving school. This seems to be concurrent with working with Jim Duguid at Park Lane Studio.
  4. first half of 2004. It's reported that he gigged with Speedway prior to July 2004 - I can find references to support this.
  5. (previously #5) second half of 2004. It's reported that he commuted from Glasgow to London to work with Jim Duguid who had moved there. After a while Nutini moved to London himself.
  6. (previously #5) November 2004. There are lots of pics and audio of Nutini playing the Bedford in Balham on Nov 2004.
  7. (previously #2). Nutini subsequently signed to Atlantic in May 2005 and didn't release These Streets until July 2006. We have to assume that the "three years learning the music business and performing live" is the period from early 2003 to the release of These Streets in mid 2006, encompassing all of the above and not a separate event between being a roadie and working at Park Lane. I think that troubling statement should either be removed or serve as an intro to subsequent events

The section also implies that Nutini's support slots for the Stones was around the time of the Bedford sets in 2004 - as far as I can see he only supported the Stones after the release of These Streets in July 2006 (this fact as also mentioned lower down, and should probably be removed from Early Life). Similarly, I think he only played with Winehouse and KT Tunstall in 2007 and 2008, again not Early Life. Jimbilsborough (talk) 17:40, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Btw, I'd mentioned "Jenny Don't be Hasty" in the relationships paragraph under Personal Life since Nutini himself says it's about a real life experience.
