I removed the picture Image:Paihia.jpg as it doesn't show Paihia at all. It's a photo of Russell across the water from Paihia. 81.159.88.164 (talk) 06:40, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

12 years later, I also just removed a photo of Russell that was mislabelled as Paihia. (1 February 2020)

Where's the marae?[edit]

"The local Waimangaro Marae is a traditional meeting ground of the Ngāpuhi hapū of Te Uri Ongaonga; it includes the Waimangaro meeting house."

There are two references. Even after wading through the first one, Te Kāhui Māngai Directory of Iwi and Māori Organisations, I am none the wiser about this, and the second ref doesn't show any marae in Paihia. The first wikilink, Te Uri Ongaonga, is actually a redirect to Ngāpuhi, and the Waimangaro link is also a redirect, to Paihia. Anyone? Moriori (talk) 23:56, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Paewiki: added the information a year ago. Perhaps they could explain. Searching on Google maps gives the nearest marae to Paihia as Waitangi (Te Tii). There's a Waimangaro Road off the Paihia Road (closer to Opua than Paihia) but there's nothing there on the (low res) satellite image that looks like a marae. Thank you both for spotting my mistake. Waimangaro is listed on three iwi/government websites as the meeting point of Te Uri Ongaonga hapū ([1], [2], [3]). However, as you say, Waimangaro isn't in Paihia and there is no evidence (from reliable sources) that it has a meeting house. I have deleted this entire section, and replaced it with a brief sentence on the Opua article. Paewiki (talk) 04:19, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
