Okay, apologies for removing the "arthouse-style" section; my mistake. But what on earth is "rape for good causes" supposed to mean? It's such an extraordinary comment that it absolutely requires sources to be cited. Loganberry (Talk) 4 July 2005 11:09 (UTC)

A burden of citation is hard to meet for a show like Pacific Blue which has not yet been the focus of any scholarly activity (to my knowledge, at least). However, an example would be the episode "Treasure Hunt" from the fourth season. A female officer named Strickland has a bad day and goes to a singles bar, where she meets a seemingly kind man who's interested in her for her personality, not sex. She wakes up the next day and realizes she was slipped a drug and may have been raped. Her badge is missing. The rest of the episode focuses on her and her officer friend Russ Granger attempting to find out what happened, who raped her (if she was raped), and retrieve her badge. The mystery is solved (spoiler ahead) when she learns that there had been a group of nerds drugging and raping "bitches" (that is, attractive women who wouldn't consent to sex with the nerds) and earning points depending on how worthy each target was. The sincere man from before, who had been participating but had "fallen behind" (and is therefore a rapist) had initially planned on raping Strickland but then realized she was a nice woman and had put her in a cab. Other men in the group had then, without his knowledge, intercepted her and raped her/stolen her badge. The nice man, who is shown to be a good man who only raped women who deserved it (according to the logic of the show), helps the officers of Pacific Blue catch the bad rapists. The "good rapist" is consistently given a positive portrayal and his rapes are excused as justified. That's just one example. Watch the show if you don't believe me, or go do some actual research instead of just deciding "that sounds odd, time to delete it."

Okay, firstly mea culpa as far as the deletion was concerned. What I should have done was asked on this Talk page first, rather than just marking it as vandalism. As for citing sources, I was using the phrase in a fairly broad sense: I'd certainly consider mention of a specific (and therefore checkable) episode to be acceptable.
