Naming[edit]

The following detail was obtained via a SA Government website called 'PlaceNames Online':

The Owen family were the lessees of the nearby Taylor Island for many years, and at the time of the name change, members of the family still held the lease-vide DL.6797/1960. Formerly known as Rabbit Island (as shown on Department of Lands records), with the name change being effected under the Crown Lands Act to avoid confusion with another Rabbit Island in Louth Bay 1 mile from the mainland. Area approx 50 acres. Also locally known as Little Taylor Island due to its close proximity to Taylor Island-vide DL.6769/1960.

Unfortunately, 'PlaceNames Online' only provides information as a database report and not as a separate webpage. Therefore, it is probably unsuitable as a reference. I suspect that the names change would have been gazetted at the time & will seek out references for the island's various names via the SA Government Gazette.
