Removed Advertizing[edit]

Two local companies were advertizing on this page with links to their websites and slogans worked into the text of the page. Neither of them has historical importance to the city or region, and both were written with an obvious intent to drum up business. My knowledge of this topic is based on being a current resident of the city, and I have already removed them both. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.207.39.53 (talk) 03:54, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Removed the entry for Eade's Wallpaper, since it also read as an obvious advertisement. I also live in Olean and I'm pretty sure that Eade's doesn't have a worldwide presence that justifies their slogan and it barely has any local significance either that I know of. -user.lain (talk) 21:13, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Famous People[edit]

A Google search on "Caedmon Holland" turns up exactly zero hits. That fails the "famous" test to me. I'm removing the entry from the list, if there is other evidence supporting it's inclusion, please provide it. Delius1967 23:08, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bringing Back Famous People[edit]

I think that we should bring back the famous people area of the page. It is kinda intersting but i go agree that we should moniter it more carefully, we dont want oddball people editing it, Chrystal Cybulski whatever, or byron Herbert for example. I think this is a clean list of true famous people:

• Ted Marchibroda, former NFL head coach, attended St. Bonaventure University

• Jeff Fahey, actor

• Bob Lanier, basketball hall of famer

• Robert Sassone, basketball coach and player, attended St. Bonaventure University

• Peter Tomarken, game show host

• Louis Zamperini, Olympian

• Robert Lax, poet

• Tom Stephan, (aka Superchumbo), Remix artist

• Frank W. Higgins, Governor of New York

• Jeffrey McMullen, landscape photographer

• Beverly Bower, operatic soprano at Metropolitan Opera House

• Eddie Donovan, New York Knicks head coach (1961-1965), head coach, St. Bonaventure University, 1954-1961

• Art Hannes, announcer, Ed Sullivan Show, colleague of Edward R Murrow, and accompanied Admiral Byrd to the South Pole

• Riki Lindhome, actress

• Bill Easley, saxophonist

• Bill Marcus, actor

• Maureen LeBoeuf, Brigadier General and the first female department head at West Point

• Dave Dugan, CBS reporter

• Carol Levine, Author and winner of 1993 MacArthur Foundation Fellowship Thanks Conamigo 23:41, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dresser-Rand not headquartered there?[edit]

According to http://www.dresser-rand.com/contact/default.asp Dresser-Rand is HQed in Houston, not Olean. I recommend this be removed from the Olean entry, but I won't do so myself as I don't know the exact facts. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Carl67lp (talkcontribs) 17:40, 10 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

The Worldwide HQ is in Houston, but the North American Operations HQ is in Olean.Lurch7284 (talk) 20:21, 19 February 2008 (UTC)lurch7284[reply]

Largest Employer in Olean[edit]

Dresser-Rand is the largest employer in Cattaragus County and its only presence in the county is in Olean, thus it must be the largest employer in Olean. Lurch7284 (talk) 20:31, 19 February 2008 (UTC)lurch7284[reply]

Notable Residents[edit]

I took the liberty to remove a number of people from the list of notable residents that only attended St. Bonaventure University. Bona's is "not" within the city limits and unless we can show that Neil Cuvuto and Bob Lanier had an address in Olean they don't belong on this list. Bonaventure has a section of notable alumni and that's where they should be. Hydramix (talk) 22:07, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
