trackplan[edit]

"The Oldham Loop is a branch of the Caldervale Line, diverging from that route at Thorpes Bridge Junction in Newton Heath, Manchester, and re-joining it, facing in the opposite direction at Rochdale East Junction, just north of Rochdale. Trains can, therefore run from Manchester to Rochdale and back without reversing by utilising the Oldham Loop."

In contrast the trackplan shows the Caldervale line diverging via facing points shortly after leaving Victoria and converging by trailing points and therefore in the same direction just before reaching Rochdale. To my simple mind what the text describes should appear on the trackplan as a facing divergence beyond Rochdale. If I'm being thick please explain -- Timberframe (talk) 14:29, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The trackplan is correct - the 'Caldervale Line' going into Rochdale at the top is the line from Todmorden, not Manchester Victoria. The bit poking out at the top at Rochdale is the line back to Manchester Victoria. -- NRTurner (talk) 16:20, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks. Perhaps someone who knows how could add a couple of labels to that effect to save others from the same misinterpretation. -- Timberframe (talk) 23:01, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Been bold and worked out how to do it myself. Hope the additional captions illustrate NRTurner's explanation correctly. -- Timberframe (talk) 13:25, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of closed railway stations in Britain[edit]

With the line closing October for rebuilding as extension of Manchester Metrolink should all the stations now be listed as closed.? [[Steamybrian2 (talk) 19:06, 24 November 2009 (UTC)]][reply]

In my opinion, no. They will be re-opening as tram stops. None of the other Metrolink stations that were converted in Phase 1 are listed on Wikipedia as closed stations. NRTurner (talk) 19:57, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
