Farmer's Bridge Junction[edit]

I suspect that this publication (Canal Companion - Birmingham Canal Navigations, J. M. Pearson & Associates, 1989, ISBN 0-907864-49-X) has erroneously labelled Old Turn Junction as Farmer's Bridge Junction, and have removed the text I added. Another book (Birmingham's Canals, Ray Shill, 1999, 2002, ISBN 0-7509-2077-7) states that Farmer's Bridge Junction is at the original boundary of the Birmingham Canal Newhall Branch with the Birmingham and Fazeley adjacent to Farmer's Bridge top lock and Cambrian Wharf. This seems more plausible. Oosoom Talk to me 19:32, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A Google search on "Boundary Post Article - Sign Post Update - Jeff Barley" brings up an article which explains that the island was labelled as Farmer's Bridge Junction in error and the sign changed later:

"... A finial from Farmers Bridge, this being the first post erected, put up on the island in Birmingham that now bears the sign “Old Turn Junction”. The name was changed when it was realised that Farmers Bridge Junction is the arm near to the top lock of that flight. Some will say that even Old Turn is not right and that it should be Deep Cutting Junction – letters to the editor, please, not me ..."

I had to retrieve the cached version as the main Google hit gave an error. [www.bcn-society.co.uk/bp158_sign2.php]. Oosoom Talk to me 19:48, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Until recently (book written in 1994) this [Old Turn Junction] was known as Farmer's Bridge ... a name which had originally been given to the junction with the Newhall Branch at the top of the locks. When that branch closed the name was transferred to here. The new title was only used for about thirty years. In 1993 the name changed again, it was re-christened Old Turn Junction. … The first name given to it was Deep Cutting Junction." Oosoom Talk to me 20:09, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
