Translations[edit]

The literal meanings of the Asian names would be good to add. The Chinese name is particularly interesting (I think it means "snow flower vegetable" or something like that). Badagnani 22:08, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Page move[edit]

User:Ityoppyawit while I appreciate you being bold and moving the article, this was a controversial move and you need to use the process described here: Wikipedia:Requested_moves#Requesting_controversial_and_potentially_controversial_moves. "Tofu dreg" is not an appropriate name - it is not good English and not commonly used for this substance. Jytdog (talk) 05:36, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Okara (food) → Soy pulp – The product is also very popularly used in Chinese and Korean cuisines. Soy pulp is a neutral and intuitive name, that is used by many other Wikimedia projects, such as Croatian, French, Italian, Lithuanian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Ukranian Wikipedias. mettokki (talk) 08:03, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. This is the most common name for the food in English, and should not be considered inherently biased simply because the English term comes from Japanese. See also Tofu (not bean curd), Edamame (not soy pods), Tempeh (not fermented soybeans), Douhua (not soybean pudding), etc. Dekimasuよ! 20:29, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. WP:POVNAMING does not require use of non-idiomatic "bean curd English". I'm not sure what is biased about using borrowed words (they make up much of the English corpus) and they have to be borrowed from some language, so why not Japanese? Even if Japanese words are "biased", WP:POVNAMING notes that, "If a name is widely used in reliable sources (particularly those written in English), and is therefore likely to be well recognized by readers, it may be used even though some may regard it as biased.". — AjaxSmack 04:49, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Content merge[edit]

I see no mention of a merge or move from Soy pulp, but a previous version of that page has significant content.
