Map[edit]

A map showing the location of the canal would be nice 99.190.231.3 (talk) 16:29, 13 September 2011 (UTC)BeaBryant[reply]

Here I am, more than five and a half years later, seconding the motion—only I'd say it a lot more strongly: This article is useless without a map, and colored dots on a map of Ohio don't cut it. The endless tables of data are meaningless without something visual showing where the canal was. Worse than meaningless, it's annoying that people evidently know so much about this canal but are either unable or unwilling to draw a simple map showing where it was.—98.10.53.0 (talk) 00:48, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'll add my voice. I just finished reading an article in the NY Times about the Erie and Ohio-Erie canals. I wanted to see how these linked NYC to the interior of the US. Wikipedia fails me here! This link, https://www.nps.gov/cuva/planyourvisit/upload/Ohio-and-Erie-Canal_final_for-web.pdf, contains the information I wanted. Something similar should be in the article. cffk (talk) 12:31, 27 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I added the Canal to OpenHistoricalMap with a high level of details, so maybe you can implement it somehow into the article. Here are the links to Ohio and Erie and the Columbus Feeder. I plan to also add the other canals of the system in future. Doktorpixel14 (talk) 07:28, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I exported it as a GeoJSON and added it as a Mapframe into the article Doktorpixel14 (talk) 10:26, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

size/area[edit]

" Area 24.5 acres (99,000 m2) "

I am wondering what this area is in reference to. there is absolutely no mention of this within its accompanying footnote reference. and to show the area of a canal is really irrelevant unless this happens to be the area where the historic section which was mentioned is located. if that is the case it does not belong in this article, or at the most in the specific section referring to sections of the canal recognized as historical landmarks.

Tapalmer99 (talk) 19:29, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

just looking at this article again it was lacking in balance and content, especially in respect under the 'significant dates' heafing. it doesn't state when it was planned, approved, financed, when construction started and finished, or even Canal extensions and intersections but, it only lists when it became a National Historic Landmark. this only happened for a very short section of the canal.

(one problem with Wikipedia is that people find one sex source and started article about it and not put any real effort into trying to find further information to round out the article).

Tapalmer99 (talk) 19:38, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

correct that...

"people find one read source and start an article about it ... " Tapalmer99 (talk) 19:45, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
