Origins?[edit]

Where does the term come from? The link for reference 1 seems to be not responding at the moment. I think a wikipedia entry on the topic should include something of its origins or who coined the phrase. Tassit (talk) 02:02, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

a number sentence that you use numbers in a line. a fraction number sentence is called a proportion.

number sentence[edit]

a sentence use in mathematical form and numbers in a line --71.86.80.52 (talk) 00:30, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

More formal?[edit]

The article says that "number sentences are used to introduce students to notions of structure and algebra prior to a more formal treatment of these concepts". Do I understand correctly that

"3+ ⬜ = 10"

is considered a number sentence, but

"3+x=10"

is not? And is the former considered less formal than the latter?
