Facelift[edit]

I just made an experimental page that I will use to make edits. Please keep checking back and tell me what you think. Link: User:Jgcarter/Northern State Parkway (JGCarter Test).

I'm now working on the exit list...comments would be nice. Jgcarter 19:21, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Former Meadowbrook Parkway interchange[edit]

I grew up on Long Island. Sometime during the late 1980s/early 1990s, the Northern State underwent major reconstruction and upgrades from the Meadowbrook out to the Wantagh. I remember the former interchange with the Meadowbrook was cited as particularly bad, with short and overly-curved ramps more suited to the parkway's original 1920s design speeds. Since the new interchange is mentioned in the article, should mention be made of this in the "History" section, perhaps citing local news articles from the time about it? (I remember both the Times and Newsday had some material.) Tckma (talk) 21:47, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Extensive discussion of political aspects of road history[edit]

I'll just note here that the history of the NSP is replete with a great amount of detail as concerns political and agency disagreements involved in its planning and construction (went to dinner after a meeting; bids solicited and accepted by whom, and on which date, etc.). It is relevant, of course, but perhaps a bit out of proportion for a general description in history of a roadway in this context. I do appreciate the tremendous effort that someone went through to organize and provide the information, but sometimes I feel the level of detail might have been better suited to a dedicated website. (Please compare to other Wikipedia articles about New York State Parkway System.)
