Normed division algebra[edit]
Normed division algebra redirects to normed algebra but isn't mentioned there at all. Wikipedia used to have a page on normed division algebras, see here, but its contents appear to have been lost now? Tobias Bergemann (talk) 20:42, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
- @Tobias Bergemann it looks like Mathsci decided to merge that content into composition algebra. That seems like a better target for this as things stand now, so I'll enact that. Rschwieb (talk) 18:41, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
Redirect[edit]
In 1956 Mark Naimark published Normed Rings on functional analysis and Banach algebras. According to MathSciNet there have been up to 50 uses of "normed algebra" or "normed ring" in the titles of articles reviewed for Mathematical Reviews. Most, if not all, refer to functional analysis, and this title could thus be Redirected to Banach algebra.
The term normed algebra is unlikely to be used in reference to Composition algebra as the function aa* has values in a base field which may not be real. The term norm (mathematics) has broad usage as a non-negative function to R, and is ill-suited to describe the isotropic quadratic form aa* of the split composition algebras. — Rgdboer (talk) 03:54, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
