Bibliography[edit]

I note that this entry originally lacked references. Accordingly, I consulted the New Zealand Bibliographic Database and provided some relevant bibliographic references.

My knowledge of Norman McLeod stems almost entirely from a book entitled "Watchman Against the World: The Remarkable Journey of Norman McLeod & his People from Scotland to Cape Breton Island to New Zealand", by Cape Bretoner Flora McPherson. It has information that contradicts some statements in this article. For one, the book explains that McLeod went to King's College in Aberdeen to complete a four-year arts degree, but he only completed two of three years of his divinity degree at universtiy in Edinburgh. This meant he could not be recognized as a minister by the Church of Scotland. This did not prevent him from preaching to a small colonial community in Nova Scotia, as the article says, but he was not formally recognized as a minister until he was ordained by the Caledonia church in the US in 1826.

As I am an unregistered user, I will leave the actual editing to others as they see fit.

Fact check[edit]

This article needs a thorough review of facts and typos and referencing. For instance it said they left Australia in 1853 and arrived in NZ in 1833: thats probably a typo and I altered it. But the Adelaide section describes MacLeods sons dying there, while the Waipu House of Memories site says: "The group were forced to live in Canvas town outside of Melbourne in the midst of violence, crime and disease. Some died of typhoid including 3 of Norman's sons." I don't know which is correct. Mhicaoidh (talk) 09:58, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

added link to Dictionary of NZ Biography (although thats too brief to clear up the issue above) Mhicaoidh (talk) 10:23, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation page[edit]

This page should perhaps be included in the already rather extensive list of people named Norman MacLeod, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_Macleod_%28disambiguation%29. I tried to edit that page to include this one, but my editing skills are insufficient, it seems. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.123.162.136 (talk) 10:14, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
