The Nolwenn Effect[edit]

"ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- A scientific peer-reviewed paper entitled Posturographic Changes and Fall Prevention Associated with Music Therapy: The Nolwenn Effect (USA ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT00121693) is featured at the 7th Annual American Music Therapy Association Conference in Orlando, Florida, Nov 15-20, 2005. This major conference attracts participants from around the world. Falls are a serious health issue and are the greatest cause of death in the elderly, a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among children and a common cause of serious infant injuries, all of which are commonly associated with neurological syndromes. Drs. Elena Ogerro, Guido Pagnacco and Frederick Carrick are the investigators of a year-long study in which they used a variety of music from Mozart and different popular singers while they recorded changes in postural stability and the possibility of falling in a large multi-blinded controlled brain-based clinical trial. Dr. Pagnacco noted, "The prevention of falls allows us to save lives, and the use of music, especially that of Nolwenn Leroy, increases human stability." Dr. Elena Ogerro stated that the "study began after observations of positive behavioral and postural changes in a young autistic boy listening to the music of Nolwenn Leroy, a French singer. These changes would stop when other music was played and were only present with songs by Nolwenn Leroy."

Music is used in a variety of neurological applications. Professor Carrick explained, "When patients with severe dementia listen to background music playing or caregiver singing, there are strong influences on both body and sensory awareness resulting in straightened posture, stronger and more symmetric movements, and a greatly increased awareness of themselves and their environment. When individuals listen to music, there is activity in the motor-related structures of the brain, specifically in lateral premotor areas, supplementary motor areas, and somatomotor areas."

Because of the statistically significant changes observed with the Nolwenn Leroy group, they thought the effect might be due to listening to French singers, but this was proven not true. They found that there was improvement in stability scores for all French and U.S. singers used in the study but not in the control group. Thus, they concluded that the procedure of listening to music each day appears to have a positive effect regardless of the artist with some music (Mozart and Nolwenn Leroy) having superior outcomes.

Only Mozart and the Nolwenn Leroy conditions improved a substantial percentage of the subjects to the normal stability range. The success rate for the Nolwenn Leroy treatment conditions was greater than Mozart and all other music at 71.8% plus/minus 10.7%. If repeated samples were drawn from the population, the expected success rate for the Nolwenn Leroy treatment conditions would fall between 61.1% and 82.5% for 95% of those samples.

Interestingly, the doctors found hundreds of subjects without any symptoms of disequilibrium or vertigo to be at severe risk of falling when tested with dynamic computerized posturography. Early detection of fall probability can lead to treatment before a fall occurs. The researchers have named the effects of postural changes after music listening the NOLWENN EFFECT. Ambiguous sentence[edit]

"She appears as a Butterfly, Spider and a cocoon moth caterpillar." Appears ambiguous to me. On cannot be a "cocoon moth caterpillar". (Or at least not all at once). 24.202.212.244 19:27, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Section header and sub-heading text changed. Restructure of section.[edit]

The section was headed 'Musical career', which was a misnoma, as what was written was about Leroy's 'Recordings' - it has been renamed thus. Sub sections were, and are still, about her 3 album releases - I have put the actual release date in the header. I have re-written the text to be of a uniform, and of a Wikipedia style, but have not removed any information that was present: because of this there may be factual inaccuracies.

The content of the section and sub-sections concerned 'Recordings', not Leroy per se. I have re-written to properly reflect this, with albums being the subject of any text, paragraph or sentence.

I have watched the Histoire Naturelle video, debated above... cocoons are there, butterfies are there, moths are there, as metaphor, but the previous description was vague... accordingly I've adjusted and shortened it to the more general.

Some reference links were dead, while others were to the Leroy web site... unacceptable... ref. Wikipedia:NPOV and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Where claims are not backed-up by verifiable proof - they are everywhere - I have added citation requests - Wikipedia:Verifiability.

Tidy-up re-write of Biography, Star Academy, and Research sections. Syntax and grammar[edit]

I have edited these sections to improve grammar and syntax. Generally, text has been compacted to remove superfluity.

It could be that editors of this article do not have English as first language, thereby English grammatical structure being a little "off-kilter" (awry/unbalanced). I don't want to appear too critical with my edits as my expertise in languages other than English is non-existent. If any non-English editor would like help in making an article readable in English, I would be glad to help.

Biography

Compacted and "syntaxed" text and paragraph for clarity and a smoother read. I have removed part of the "information": "Her father, professional footballer Jean-Luc Le Magueresse, had deserted the family in 1992, when she was only 10 years old." "deserted the family" apppears to at least to violate Wikipedia:Original research and more likely Wikipedia:NPOV. I can find no reference on the web other than that which refers back to this article. I might be wrong; if I am, there needs citation for this contentious assertion.

The text: "...study in Cincinnati, Ohio, as an exchange student. While there, she also attended the performing arts Hamilton High School..." is still ambiguous. There is a performing arts school in Cincinnati, but I find no reference to one in Hamilton, Ohio. Was the one year study in the US stated elsewhere on the web, at Hamilton? Was it Cincinnati where she did a two-day course in performing arts?... this hardly worth mentioning. It's not surprising that this is confusing - it is when mentioned anywhere on the web. Perhaps somebody can clarify; perhaps the sentences should be removed.

"Citation needed" to the section added, as nothing is referenced.

Star Academy

The text, "Following certain rumours, her family denied that Armande Altaï pulled strings for her to be selected as a finalist." written without evidence is completely unacceptable in Wikipedia terms. Is this a quote?... it appears not. Is this 'editor' personal biased opinion?... it appears so. Wikipedia is not a place for such assertions. It may be true; it may not be true. If it is true, and is a quote.... cite it. The section has been re-phrased and compacted with request for citations.

Research

A reasonable section with reasonable information. But written in confused fashion. I have clarified, but the over-egging of reference links with text that is also written in the 'References' section is unnecessary. After looking at the link-throughs, I have changed the implied assertion that the tests were a seeming competition between Mozart and Leroy to: "Mozart, and Dutch and French singers, were tested".

I have reverted the present “Music career” section, (by IP address 142.157.215.100 on 9 December 2010) to “Recordings”. This section concerns albums not a wider career. If her Music career as a section is needed – let's add one, and include the Star Academy information... all information with citations for proof of course. A link to an online radio station does not require its own section - this link has been added to External links. And: “a project begun in 2007“ changed back to “a project that began in 2007” – the past participle “begun” can be used in this context as “a project that had begun in 2007", but the simple past tense is more direct. You could interchange “that” with “which”, as modern common usage has blurred the distinction between the two words, often making the choice a judgement call – I prefer “that” wherever possible, because its physical sound is more direct. I have removed the sub-section "International market" added 29 March 2011 by IP address 86.19.254.217. Is this the title of a recording? The text was future-gazing, editorializing and fan-style blogese, and therefore inappropriate for Wikipedia. Fourth Album Information, Grammatical corrections and Citations[edit]

Certifications[edit]

The album "Bretonne" was certified double record of diamond by the SNEP, what corresponds to 1,000,000 of the sold copies. However, the site changed this certification and announcement record of diamond today. For the number of sales, there is a forum on the website Pure Charts which concerns the discography of the artist, but I do not know if it is possible to take the information indicated because of copyright.It's maybe better to indicate the real certification and certified copies sold (500,000).
