The meaning of the name of the group[edit]

We've recently had an editor who persistently added "No thank you" immediately next to the trio's name in the lead believing that the name "No mercy" is in French, which somehow means "No thank you". Well, that is just not correct as in the French language "No thank you" is written "Non, merci". Note that the word "No" in French is always written "Non", and the word "Thanks" or "Thank You" is always written "Merci" with an "I" at the end, never with "Y". Regardless of what the dialect or the region is, "No thank you" is written "Non merci", not "No mercy". The trio's name has an English meaning, which is for "No forgiveness". I hope this clarifies things a bit and we experience no more of the incorrect similar insertions.--Harout72 (talk) 22:43, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Non Mercy, No Mercy, Merci - all the words are of the same origin and it is all the same, comes from Latin originally. Hopehoppy (talk) 18:49, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Latin origin has nothing to do here with the name of the band. English language for your information is a Germanic language, not Latin.--Harout72 (talk) 18:57, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Both No and Mercy are French borrowings, even if English is Germanic - no thank you is literal. Hopehoppy (talk) 18:59, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The words have similar origins, but that is not the same as having the same meaning. Trying to translate them "literally" based on Latin roots isn't valid. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 19:00, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
