Actual times[edit]

There seems to be something missing. What is the border between a night game and a day game? Seven PM, is obviously a night game. Many games in the Central Time Zone start at 7 PM Eastern, which means they start at 6. If the average game lasts 2.5 hours, then they'd end at around 8:30, which is before sunset for most of the late spring to early fall. But that hits sunset, so 5PM? 5:30 PM? 4PM? As the days get shorter at the end of the baseball season, does the night game starting time recede? Do all sports use the same rules regarding the time of day? Could a baseball game that starts at the same time as a football game be counted differently in the two different sports? Does it matter where the cities are in their timezone, as sundown in Atlanta, for example, is about 15 minutes later than NYC? I know that if a day game goes late into extra innings and they have to turn on the lights, it's still considered a day game, but is that the case even if the majority of the game is then played in the dark? When they decide (although it's rare...but think the Pine Tar Incident, for one offhand example) to suspend a game and finish it later rather than call it, does a change in the time of the makeup game affect the status as either a day or night game?

There have to be rules somewhere, because definitive records are kept regarding a team's won-loss record in day games as oppose to night games, but what is the distinction? It should be addressed in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:CDE3:1250:A524:14F7:7EE4:8733 (talk) 15:00, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Independence[edit]

In the middle of the baseball section there is a five paragraph proof on why Independence had the first night game despite clear citations above that they were not first. 2600:1702:2620:1C60:7817:A90F:1594:79F (talk) 14:50, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
