What leads one to expect that the Nielsen number will be greater than zero for a space? An example or two would be cool. Kyle Pena 01:50, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An example calculation is tough because the Nielsen number is so hard to compute, but I'll put one in at some point. As for expecting it to be nonzero, it will automatically be nonzero for any mapping on spaces with the fixed point property, or for any mapping (on other spaces) with nonzero Lefschetz number.
