Untitled[edit]

The man is called Nicholas not Nicolas. Oxford DNB agrees. University of Cambridge list of Alumni agrees. Christ's college list of members agrees. Brittanica 1911 agrees. Somebody do something! 131.111.233.218 22:57, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've now put this on Requested moves, and hopefully admin will sort out moving it to Nicholas Saunderson soon 131.111.233.218 14:11, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why don't you register to make the move yourself ? Švitrigaila 07:51, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

Nicolas Saunderson → Nicholas Saunderson]] … Rationale: I am unregistered, I can't do the move. I think it needs admin. See talk page for Nicolas Saunderson … Please share your opinion at Talk:Nicolas Saunderson. 131.111.233.218 12:30, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To be made MA?[edit]

Current version says: "... Queen Anne made Saunderson MA on 19 November 1711 ..." What does this mean? Is MA an abbreviation for something? 198.166.55.98 05:10, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It means he was made Master of Arts, or more clearly, he was awarded the degree of M.A. Although the usage "made MA" is technically correct, it is probably clearer to a reader to change it to awarded the degree or something like that.LeBofSportif 07:44, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The article doesn't make it clear that at Cambridge University, one was not allowed to have an official post, like professor, without a (Cambridge?) MA degree. This is why he was given the M.A.LeBofSportif 07:45, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Will make an appropriate change. 198.166.55.98 06:13, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vian Dinh[edit]

Moved here from the lead: "He studied under supervision from mathematician Vian Dinh.[1]" The lead ought not to contain information that is missing from the body of the article. When I tried to check this page on Google books the page was not shown. If this is a Vietnamese it is unusual to find him travelling to Cambridge in the 17th century.--Johnsoniensis (talk) 16:21, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have now seen page 278 but found nothing in it about Vian Dinh.--Johnsoniensis (talk) 16:25, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The vandalism has been removed; it was first entered without the citation.--Johnsoniensis (talk) 16:30, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
