Full Cathedral status[edit]

Should this, 1949: Full Cathedral status, be added to the main part? I had to hunt through the article in order to find the information in a list.

Full title[edit]

The full title of "Newport Cathedral of St Woolos, King & Confessor" is sourced to this page from 2008. But I can find no reference to this name at the current Cathedral website. I think both are suitable sources. I wouldn't be too concerned about the change from 'of' to a colon, which is probably at the dean's discretion and not fixed in canon law. Another possible source is the notice board outside the cathedral. This is visible on Google StreetView.[3] It is in poor condition, but it appears to mention St Gwynllyw. Tone[edit]

If anyone has the time/inclination, the language used in this article could do with an overhaul. “It is here we first view the chief glory of the cathedral, the wonderful portal”, etc. is more guidebook than encyclopaedic. KJP1 (talk) 07:33, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously someone has a a deep love for the building, but as you say the tone is non-encyclopaedic. I'm intending to visit the place on Saturday (turning pages for a visiting organist), and hope to improve to matters on my return. MinorProphet (talk) 22:21, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well KJP1, it's a fine and interesting building, if a bit of a clamber to struggle up the steep streets of Casnewdydd from the station. I bought the handbook by Andrew Willie (cited in the article), expecting a number of WP:COPYVIOs (I was happily disappointed), but the article goes even further than the guide's expressive phrases. I'll have a go in the next few days. The 4-manual organ btw, rebuilt by Nicholsons in 1997 is in excellent shape, although my organist said it lacks a certain mid-range punch for recitals, being designed to accompany choral singing...
