It is reasonably well written.

Eh, I dunno about the parenthetical.

What kind of filtration plant?

Dunno what kind of plant it is? Water, sewage, chemical?

Is the town of Alden and the village of Alden two seperate entities?

"The route became more populated" what does this mean?

Remove the parenthetical and rewrite it. I would say something like "the population density increased" or "became more urbanized." The sentence as it is reads as if the road itself becomes more populated, and I'm sure that's not what you mean.
