Location?[edit]

How did the 23rd District migrate all the way from New York City to the upstate border with Canada? Vidor (talk) 21:58, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently the old District 23 isn't the current one? Wasn't aware the district used to include NYC, that's interesting. It was likely shifted around thanks to census data (the only reason to shift district borders), which means, probably it got altered and renumbered sometime after 2000 (which was the last US census, IIRC)? 70.118.24.50 (talk) 04:29, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Who put in the claim that this district has been held by Republicans for a 100 years? This is clearly not even close to being true based on the election results provided later. For example:

   Peter A. Peyser 	Democratic 	January 3, 1979 – January 3, 1983
   Samuel S. Stratton 	Democratic 	January 3, 1983 – January 3, 1989 	
   Schenectady 	Redistricted from the 28th district
   Michael R. McNulty 	Democratic 	January 3, 1989 – January 3, 1993

It is the geographical area of what is now NY-23 that has been Republican since the 19th century, not the district numbered 23. For example, when Michael McNulty was the rep, NY-23 was in a different part of the state (Albany, Schenectady, Montgomery and Rensselear counties). Davemck (talk) 19:11, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

14 of the last 19 representatives Were Democrats. How can anyone say this seat has been held by Republicans since the civil war?

This election was NOT certified by the Secretary of State and Hoffman has unconceded the results so Owens is not the representative. Rmgrotkierii (talk) 05:29, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

lede[edit]

I don't understand why the lede paragraph mentions that "[newly elected Democrat] Owens cast his vote in favor of the health reform bill before the House of Representatives shortly after 11:00 PM on Saturday, November 7, 2009". Didn't most Democrats vote for the bill? And if there is anything remarkable about this vote, shouldn't it be mentioned in the article Bill Owens rather than here? --Austrian (talk) 15:33, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
