First hit single?[edit]

Article says NYD was U2's first hit single. In UK yes, but they already had two top 10 hits in Ireland (bands country of origin) before that. This should be specified as it's a little misleading. Also, NYD was no.2 in Irish chart, this isn't mentioned at all and yet no.11 in Dutch chart is?

Solidarity[edit]

It's from an interview with Rolling Stone from 2012, where Bono said, ""We improvise, and the things that came out; I let them come out."

"I must have been thinking about Lech Walesa being interned. Then, when we'd recorded the song, they announced that martial law would be lifted in Poland on New Year's Day. Genre dispute[edit]

I think it is obvious that this song is indeed "hard rock," not just "rock" in general. OED defines hard rock as "rock music characterised by overall loudness and a heavy regular beat." Actually I said genres are almost always not WP:BLUE, particularly differences between sub-genres. They are almost always a matter of opinion, and this is why genres are so often subject to disputes. My opinion (which is irrelevant as yours, no matter how many times you've heard it), is that it is not hard rock. The only genres that might be WP:BLUE are "instrumental" and "soundtrack", which are either/or propositions rather than artistic evaluations. Every genre that is not BLUE – by far the great majority – must be supported by published sources. Binksternet (talk) 23:56, 26 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
