Weasel Words[edit]

I changed: "He claimed that he incorporated them" to "He he incorporated them". Weasel Words: either he did or he didn't. MrSativa (talk) 00:25, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Webpage[edit]

none of this is useful cause none of it answers my question!!

The page views are really low for the New Kingdom article. The New Kingdom produced some of the greatest works of architecture in human history. I think this page needs a lot more pictures. Pictures of Abu Simbel, Hatshepsut's temple, etc, would make this article come to life. I will volunteer to add them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dailey78 (talkcontribs) 02:12, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline[edit]

  • Comment. "New Kingdom" does not appear to be used for any other historical epoch; the only other entries on Wikipedia that start with the phrase are New Kingdom (band) and New Kingdom (album). A Google search for "New Kingdom -Egypt" doesn't show any other notable uses of the word. But if this article is moved to the shorter title, it would introduce inconsistency with the Egyptian Old and Middle Kingdoms. Old Kingdom (disambiguation) shows a couple of alternate meanings for that phrase. Middle Kingdom of Egypt is especially unlikely to be moved to Middle Kingdom, because that phrase has several important historical meanings. In particular, it's a common translation of the Chinese name for China. Some editors find consistency more important in naming decisions than others do, and many don't care at all, but I thought I should point this out. A. Parrot (talk) 17:54, 3 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Cautious oppose This may be the primary topic. However it is not obvious to most people what this means without further explanation, and would be inconsistent with our handling of Old Kingdom and Middle Kingdom. For similar reasons we don't move James V of Scotland to James V. PatGallacher (talk) 23:33, 3 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose for consistency reasons. Dimadick (talk) 21:43, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose world history has dozens of New Kingdoms. In ictu oculi (talk) 02:20, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Why not append the country name to every article title? Then we will always have Paris, France, not to mention the Tudor dynasty of England. Judging from the Google ("New Kingdom"), Egypt is clearly the dominent topic here. In any published encyclopedia, the title would be just "New Kingdom."[2] Tasty love salad (talk) 03:16, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions[edit]

The lead section can be improved by providing a sentence summary for each of the sections. The main thing I wanted to see in the lead section was the rise of the New Kingdom, what happened during the New Kingdom, and the fall of the New Kingdom. I enjoyed the way the article is split into time sections, but it is possible to go more in depth on each section. Though I understand it is important to stay on topic, there are many points throughout the article where I want a brief explanation of a word without having to click on it to read about it in another article. For example, when Aten is mentioned in the Eighteenth Dynasty, it could be restated, "...who changed his name to Akhenaten in honor of the Aten, a representation of the Egyptian god, Ra." In the Twentieth Dynasty section, I would reword "Something in the air prevented much sunlight from reaching the ground and also arrested global tree growth for almost two full decades until 1140 BC." to say Air pollution prevented. Pollution can refer to any thing in the air that is not originally there. It would sound more professional than to say something in the air. Over all, I think there was a lot of information left out of the article. Though a gallery provides some evidence of culture, I think that culture, methods of warfare, architecture, agriculture, religion, and hierarchy would be beneficial to include when informing about the New Kingdom of Egypt.

In the first section of the article there is a mention of the Ramesside Period. I have found a great deal of information about this period and I will add a bit of more information to slightly expand on this without losing focus of the New Kingdom. The map[edit]

The map which Pharaoh69 is attempting to add looks dubious. I am not an expert on the period, but from what I know of it it's news to me that the Egyptians conquered as far as Babylon and Nineveh. At the very least this needs better sourcing, the sources mentioned look vague. PatGallacher (talk) 13:12, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't been able to check all of the sources for this map, but as I pointed out to User:Ahmed88z some time ago, it contradicts the sources I have, such as The Oxford History of Ancient Egypt, p. 311: "The furthest extent of the actual borders was evidently established in the reign of Thutmose III in the 18th Dynasty, when triumphal stelae were erected at the River Euphrates in Asia and at Kurgus (between the fourth and fifth cataracts) in Nubia." I suspect the citations for the dubious map are being stretched to say things they don't unambiguously say, but even if not, the map can't be asserted as fact when other authoritative sources disagree with it. Finally, User:Pharaoh 69 only appeared recently and has done nothing except defend Ahmed88z's map, so we may have a case of clumsy sockpuppetry on our hands. A. Parrot (talk) 14:37, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have now opened a sockpuppet investigation. PatGallacher (talk) 15:29, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I asked you to contact me on Instagram and discuss this issue, and you evaded that. I hope you do not mess with the current map again. It is an accurate map and supported by sources. insta @A72s_1 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ahmed88z (talkcontribs) 19:41, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As pointed out to you before, the map is not accurate according to the sources you provided (especially regarding Cyprus and Assyria). For example, compare it with the Britannica map: https://cdn.britannica.com/02/106602-050-9C94E7E2/empire-rule-Egyptian-Thutmose-III.jpg
In terms of detail and presentation it is also inferior to the other map. Hypnôs (talk) 19:16, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I remain suspicious of this map, it appears to be against consensus. The sourcing is unclear, it gives 3 sources, but does not say which one the map is taken from. The only one accessible online, Britannica, gives a different map. Also, please sign your contributions. PatGallacher (talk) 19:50, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ahmed88z: I do not agree with the map you are using. I agree with the map that is named "Egypt NK edit.svg" because that is the one that most closely resembles the Encyclopedia Britannica and other sources. --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 22:05, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
