Proposed merge to nephrotic syndrome[edit]

  • Definately not, it's a completely different syndrome-it just sounds similar! I'll remove the merge tag in a day or two, unless there's a big disagreement.Felix-felix 13:17, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I removed the merge tags. The two are completely different... just sound the same. I suspect the person suggesting the merge isn't familiar with kidney disease. refs: ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]) I will add a note to both articles-- pointing-out the two should NOT be confused. Addendum - thinking about the (removed) merge proposal (with nephrotic syndrome) a bit more-- it might be useful to write a little section that just compares/contrasts the conditions so it is absolutely clear. An alternative might be to just add a line like:
Nephrotic syndrome often affects children, results in anasarca (a Michelin man-like appearance) and is characterized by excessive proteinuria. This is unlike nephritic syndrome, which is characterized by high blood pressure and red blood cell casts in the urine and is frequently post-infectious. Thanks, that would be helpful... I was in a hurry when I was adding these two to Category:Syndromes. --Renice 20:47, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Renal diet & treatment of nephritic syndrome[edit]

I reverted a section on dietary management of nephritic syndrome as I think it is not specific to nephritic syndrome. That said, it would be useful to have an article on the renal diet/dietary management of kidney disease. Nephron  T|C 03:40, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

edema...[edit]

Not an expert in this topic but isn't nephritic syndrome also characterized by edema? Also about the differences between nephrotic/nephritic syndromes, another thing I think is that nephritic syndrome is an inflammatory disease.

WikiMedicine Project[edit]

I am a fourth year medical student who has selected this article as my topic of focus for the next month. I will be editing this article with the goal of improving the accuracy and quality of the medical content on Wikipedia. My planned timeline is as follows:

Week 1[edit]

Create this timeline, analyze the article for ways that it can be improved, and begin reviewing/collecting credible sources to cite for any added information. This will include but is not limited to:

  • Fact-checking the currently cited sources
  • Relevance of all of the information to the topic
  • Assessing tone of the article for potential bias
  • Checking for information that is out-of-date or incorrect

Week 2[edit]

Add more information to the lead section to make it more comprehensive and expand on some of the sections that are already present. I plan to focus on the "pathophysiology", "diagnosis", "treatment", and "prognosis" sections as they are less completed than the others, but I may also make changes in other sections. I will also see if there are any more relevant illustrations that can help strengthen the article.

Week 3[edit]

Add relevant sections that aren't already in the article, such as epidemiology. Continue to expand on the sections that are present but currently have only a sentence or two in them. Open to any feedback or advice on how I can improve the article.

Week 4[edit]

Make additional changes as per recommendations of peer reviewers (if appropriate) and proof-read the full article.

I look forward to working on this article for the next month and continue maintaining it thereafter, and I welcome any collaboration.

Peer Review[edit]

Overall, I feel like you did an excellent job of updating the wiki page on Nephritic Syndrome to include more relevant and up-to-date information. I also really like the organization of the page and feel like it definitely help to bring information to the targeted audience.

In particular I feel like the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and epidemiology sections were very well updated. The organization of the page and individual sections were probably the biggest strengths of the page. However, if I did have to pick out some things for improvement, I think that the prognosis section could have been expanded upon even more. Perhaps, include that rapid response for some causes of Nephritic Syndrome, such as secondary to RPGN is very important for better prognosis but for other secondary causes such as SLE the prognosis is very good even if not treated urgently as it responds very favorably to treatment.

In terms of image, I think the anatomical kidney may have been better placed under the pathophysiology section. Lastly, I think maybe adding some pathology picture of a kidney biopsy demonstrating widened podocyte would have been great.

Overall, again great job! — Preceding unsigned comment added by SteveKong3 (talkcontribs) 13:34, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

+Globalize section tag[edit]

I've added a globalize maintenance tag to the epidemiology section. Student editors added this section in good faith, but they only included information relevant to the US. Elysia (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:35, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
