External links modified[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Negro Mountain. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Original articles are not permitted on WP. Blogs are not accepted as Reliable Sources. Also, the first link misspells the name of the black patriot in whose honor the mountain ridge is named. I would have removed these links, but they don't appear to exist in the article. David Spector (talk) 12:34, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Negro Mountain article is close to B class. It nearly meets the six B-Class criteria. Areas needing attention:

  1. Details and authoritative reference in the Geography section.
  2. Add references for the second paragraph of the History section, where it states, "Another version of the story has a Captain Andrew Friend…".
  3. Link, remove, or add details for redlinks.

slurs and British English[edit]

i got my revision removed due to spelling mistakes or incorrect spelling due to the page requiring american English spelling can i make the same changes with the american spelling and removal of a error the error being calling "the french Indian war" the "french & native american war"? an issue can arise from calling Native-Americans Indians due to misunderstandings & racist connotations which is why i changed these in the first place. the same racial issue's can arise from calling African-Americans "negro". so keeping the spelling & grammar in mind, may i please change the unnecessary slurs to the correct terms? — Preceding unsigned comment added by A big dumb (talkcontribs) 03:26, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit [1] was full of problems. As I said on your talk page Please be more careful. You introduced spelling mistakes ("negro's" is not the plural of "negro", "African American's" is not the plural of "African American", and "Native American's" is not the plural of "Native American"), you changed from American to British spelling in an article about an American topic, you changed the spelling of a proper noun (yes it was spelled wrong, but the mistake was in the original name, which is what the "sic" means) and you arbitrarily changed "Indians" to "Native Americans" while discussing the French and Indian War and "negro" to "African American" while discussing how Negro Mountain got its name. And yet you then restore the entire edit.
The proper noun in question is "Nemisis". Not mentioned in your talk page is the fact that you changed "negro" to "African American" and "Indian" to "Native American" in a direct quote. And I have also asked you to please sign your talk page posts. Use ~~~~ to add a timestamped signature after your post. Meters (talk) 03:54, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The change from "negroes" to "negro's" was in the user's first edit [2] Meters (talk) 04:01, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So, the three changes to "negroes" and Indians" in the direct quote from "HISTORY OF LOWER TURKEY-FOOT TOWNSHIP" at http://sites.rootsweb.com/~pasomers/ltfoot/LTFHist.html cannot be kept, the two changes from the American spelling "honor" to the British "honour" cannot be kept, and the change of ' "Nemisis" [sic]' to ' "Nemesis" [sic] ' cannot not be kept (even if we remove the inappropriate "sic" in the new version). The only change left is the change from "Indian" to "Native American" while discussing the History of Western Maryland version of the name's origin. I'm inclined to keep it as "Indian" since this incident happened in 1756 during the French and Indian War, and the story was published in 1882 (and certainly did not use the term Native American).
