Some changes[edit]

Mexican here. Just wanted to let youse know about two changes I made. One, it used to say 'naco' is used for people from lower classes too, which is not true, there can be rich nacos. So deleted that and added the bad taste bit. And second, the termn 'redneck' is not a proper translation given that we have the word 'palurdo' specifically for rural people. So edited that and added other similar terms.

Clean-up[edit]

Simply put, this article is a bit of a mess. The information seems to just be randomnly stuffed everywhere and anywhere without any kind of organization (the wikipedia equivalent of someone's attic). I can try to repair this article soon, but it would probably be best to first hear how others would like to organize it. I am not sure that it is proper to make the link between Naco and the usage Calo. Calo is the language of the lumpen proletariat and of hipsters. Nacos are definitely not hip and they are not necessarily poor. The section on naco music is totally off. Nobody can seriously self identify as being a naco. It is always somebody else who is naco. Self aware hipsters can never be nacos. Nacos never really know they are nacos. They think they are fashionable in their dark suits and white socks. Nacos do not listen to "cool music" like Maldita Vencidad or El Tri. They listen to uncool music like Chico Che y La Crisis or Rigo Tovar. Remember it is funny to look down on nacos. Shouldn't it say aphaeresis instead of apocopation?

Naco in reference to indigenous people[edit]

Hi, I've readded the section about how Naco is perjorative especially in reference to indigenous people, since I've heard it used this way and the Academia Mexicana de la Lengua also defines naco as: naco (Posiblemente de totonaco.), naca. adj., y m. y f. 1. Beg to differ[edit]

I think current uses of naco have more to do with bad taste than with social o racial characteristics. In fact, my impression is that using naco as a derogatory term on racial grounds would be frowned upon by most people. Naco has to do with bad taste, poor manners (not in how you handle cutlery, rather related with been rude or un-courteous). A naco may very well be a rich (even old-money rich, people - to address a common theme in the article) who act with no respect to others: reckless driving, cutting you off, answering a mobile during a movie, etc. Agurza (talk) 18:34, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
