If people want to add material about the campaign re the peninsula, ensure neutral POV by (a) reporting the campaign rather than implcitly endorsing it - eg. put claims by campaign groups in quotes etc and (2) ensuring responses of other parties are quoted (eg. RfC:Correct name?[edit]

What is the best name for this article? Despite the fact that there has been controversy over which name is most appropriate, it appears Burrup Peninsula is the official name and most well-known name for the peninsula. Hack (talk) 09:19, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Best known name in English usage normally beats official name, offical name normally beats politically-correct name or pov-name. A horde of pov-warriors can upset that order for as long as the horde has numerical superiority. But whatever name that has the support of whatever administrator who claims ownership of the article always beats the lot. Meowy 00:03, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It would also seem to me that best-known + official supports a move to Burrup Peninsula. I think a specific article about the petroglyph site of Murujuga should be created, as it seems note-worthy by itself, but the peninsula, as a geographical, rather than historical and artistic object, should be listed under its current name. Also, information in the development controversy section suffers from many problems as far as I can tell: too long, not updated, probably pov. I read: "The site was heritage listed in 2007.". Could it be sourced? If so, under which name? Is the site the whole peninsula, or only the petroglyphs?--Susuman77 (talk) 10:21, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Burrup Peninsula as the name for the geographical area, Murujuga as something historical or artistic; am I missing something when the article suggests that the translation of Murujuga is distincly geographical; in that it describes the geography of the area?   • Move to Barrup Peninsula - The preponderance of the given sources exclusively use either "Burrup Peninsula" or "The Dampier Rock Art Precinct", and I note that the most recent sources say "The Dampier Rock Art Precinct previously referred to as the Barrup Peninsula". From a geographic and common name standpoint, it appears that a move to "Barrup Peninsula" is correct. I also note that the source for the article's statement "Murujuga has been listed in the National Trust of Australia Endangered Places Register" does not use the name "Murujuga" at all, rather referring to "Barrup" and "Barrup Peninsula". --Tgeairn (talk) 20:36, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
