What the hell?[edit]

"criminal bands of uilleann pipe-wielding hijacker tribal jungle pygmies"...? This whole article seems like a joke to me. I haven't got access to most of the sources listed, but I find this, and much of the rest of the article rather hard to believe. Andrimner (talk) 17:32, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think we need a quotation from that article or (ideally) an online version in order to back it up. Stifle (talk) 12:50, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Failing this I think reverting to revision 211567294 might be best. Stifle (talk) 12:51, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I tried deleting the above mentioned nonsense but the user Skomorokh reverted it right back. We may need some admin help. Lathrop1885 (talk) 16:30, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The real question is why, though the content appears ridiculous, none of the objecting editors can be bothered to check the very explicit and freely-verified-by-anyone-with-an-internet-connection reference. Our articles are full with misreferenced lies nobody bothers to verify; instead, true information (albeit slantedly interpreted) is reverted on sight because editors don't like the look of it. The point of this excercise, gentlemen, is to illustrate how utterly lazy we are as a culture of encyclopedians. If you want to be a responsible editor, act like one and do your research. Sincerely, the skomorokh 18:01, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comment about american beer[edit]

I don't really think that's an intelligent comment because there are several american beers in many different styles. That comment implies that it's more bold than all american beers, which is misleading and implies some form of homgeneity in the beer population (which everyone knows there is not). 68.81.132.200 (talk) 14:47, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article contradicts itself[edit]

This article opens by saying, "Murphy's is a lighter and sweeter dry stout" and closes with "...the more intense, darker and heartier flavoured nature of Murphy's". To quote Jeremy Paxman, "You can't both be right." --O'Dea (talk) 13:44, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alice is taller than Bob who is taller than Carlos. It is not then a contradictions to say that Bob is small relative to Alice and tall relative to Carlos. Skomorokh 13:51, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Poor Carlos; and I wish all three of them well. But the article continues to contradict itself. --O'Dea (talk) 18:30, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Is is said that the beer is "lighter", and later that it is "intense and darker". That is self-contradiction that is not about relative values. It is also said that the beer is "sweeter" while later it is said to be "heartier", another clash of qualities.
My objection is not that it is being said that Murphy's is one thing or another relative to other beers, but that the article asserts in a contradictory way that Murphy's has opposing qualities within itself. This makes nonsense of the article. --O'Dea (talk) 18:45, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In comparison to its heavier and more bitter chief competitors, Guinness and Beamish, Murphy's is a lighter and sweeter dry stout."
"Commentators have noted the more intense, darker and heartier flavoured nature of Murphy's as a significant distinction over American beers.""
Guiness/Beamish are more heavier and bitter than -> Murphy's which is more intense, darker and heartier than -> American beers. No contradiction, all relative terms. Skomorokh 18:56, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Is it really more intense, darker and heartier than all American beers? How wondrous! 92.40.147.13 (talk) 21:28, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong Brewery[edit]

This is no longer brewed in Cork, it's an inbev contract brew in Wales. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.130.65.122 (talk) 01:57, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Inbev website does not claim Murphy's as one of its brands, while the Murphy's and Heineken websites say it is made in Cork. — O'Dea (talk) 05:23, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The advertisement section should contain information about how the animated ad is a nod to/based on/inspired by another famous 1990 ad for Murphy's. You can tell because it also has a group of Japanese warriors rushing to the bar, and the way they grab the bottles by twisting their arms/hands backwards.
