History articles for Barnet[edit]

These were a terrible mess with lots overlap, duplicated articles etc. Each "History of..." article should now directly relate to a district page:

The articles about formal parishes/districts should be named as such - otherwise it is consfusing to the reader as the parish/urban district/municipal boroughs usually covered a greater area than the town they were named after. These articles take the form of the name and status when it was abolished in 1965:

Redirects can be created for example from Hendon Urban District and the changing status shown in the article. As all these districts are historical anyway the articles do not need to be called "History of..." Please follow these naming conventions. MRSC 10:43, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, its very difficult to all of the people all of the time, and I may just be pulled out of the operation altogether (which folks means no pictures, maps, or acurate histories). I understand that there is a need to bring stuff together under one heading, but when you realise that people attempt to raise the issue of the number of bakeries on Golders Green Road, support their local poker team, or promote their local bar, or make sly remarks about Jewish women (see Mill Hill) well I'm sure that people understand why seperate history pages make some sence. Until the main pages settle down it will be hard for me to argue the case for contributing to the site as part of my work, and that will be a great shame.
Having said this one of the important benifits of this site is it is community of contributors.
I'm sorry but MRSC amendments are a bit of hatchet job, leaving stray bits of text (Complete areas such as Temple Fortune, and Church End Hendon) out of the finished articles. The truth is that the areas that I brought together in one section are recognisable at thier most central points but have ambiguous boundaries. We are lucky with Finchley because MRSC recognises the place. What MRSC does not realise is that Colindale, the Hyde, and West Hendon, are almost, but not quite, the same area. The same is true in other parts of the borough. Nor do the Municiple districts match the old parishes. East Barnet CP is not the same as East Barnet Valley UD
Hi. First off, the additions are of excellent quality and a high standard. However, they cannot be added in isolation. There are naming schemes for articles:
Wikipedia:WikiProject History
Wikipedia:Naming conventions
If an article is created containing for example History of West Hendon while there is already an article with one line of text called West Hendon, an editor is going to move the text there sooner or later. If you do not want to add details to an article because the existing text is unencyclopedic, remove the unenecyclopedic text rather than start a new article. MRSC 05:51, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Arms-finchley.jpg[edit]

Image:Arms-finchley.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This article is not about the municipal borough![edit]

As far as I can see, most of this article is about the ancient parish of Finchley, there is almost nothing about the UD/MB apart form a brief mention in the lead. This is in contrast to other Middlesex boroughs such as Municipal Borough of Acton, Municipal Borough of Brentford and Chiswick, Municipal Borough of Wembley are about the local government district. I would suggest that most of the text be moved to something like Finchley (ancient parish) ala Hornsey (parish) and a proper article be written about the UD/MB.
