Owl Painting on the Wall[edit]

What about that Great Horned Owl picture that Mr. Dressup would talk to? Why isn't it mentioned in the article? Does anyone know the story behind that character in the show? Jimj wpg (talk) 06:05, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Too many images[edit]

This article is too short to have 3 images, plus one of them should be of Ernie Coombs and Casey & Finnegan anyway. Surely there's one kicking around. 23skidoo 20:20, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi:

I don't have any kids myself, but I've fond memories of this gentleman. He made a safe place for kids to be for a half-hour a day. When he died, one of the first things I thought was that it would be a sad thing for Canadian kids to not know Mr Dressup. To add to the article, I think he and Mr Rogers were associates in the early days when they were both in America.

Actually, web searches suggest the two of them, both being Americans, came to Toronto to work together for the CBC on their early version of the Misterogers show, shortly before the start of Butternut Square (which became Mister Dressup), and before Misterogers became an American show. More About Butternut Square[edit]

I vaguely remember Butternut Square; I thought it lasted only one season. But http://www.canadianaconnection.com/cca/mr_dressup.htm says three.

I remember there was a Mr. Music as well as a Mr. Dressup, but can't remember what any of the other characters were, but I think there were at least two more. I think there was woman who was a central narrator, who guided the puppets (not sure if it was Casey & Finnagan), and thence the children, around the town. Mr. Dressup would then be just one place they might visit, but in hindsight it seems he was the most enduring, but perhaps other factors in fact led to the other characters leaving. I'm not sure if the woman became Mr. Dressup's first recurring visitor, or not.

In short, I don't remember enough personally and am not sure where to look to fill in the missing Butternut Square reference. I don't know if CBC would have any online information about it.--SportWagon 18:10, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Judith Lawrence's Retirement[edit]

Anyone know when she retired and Casey and Finegan left? I'm curious about what year this happened in. I think it was probably sometime in the early 90's but I'm not sure.

Additions to the Treehouse[edit]

Cultural References[edit]

Not sure if it is worth mentioning, but Mr. Dressup is referenced in a first season episode of The Newsroom. While hitting on a woman in children's programming, George asks about Mr. Dressup. When told Mr. Dressup had recently gone off the air, he made a joke about Mr. Dressup wearing a dress. Casey A Boy?[edit]

The article states that the puppet is referred to as a "he" in "at least one episode". Having watched the boxset several times, it is very clear that Casey is a boy--he's referred to as such many, many times. Rayvee (talk) 13:51, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I tend to agree. Call me sexist or conformist or whatever, but I was rather sure Casey was a boy. I am a bit disapointed to see the material here, especially since it is contradicted by the bottom of the article. I think somebody is trying to claim the show to be further ahead on gender bias than was actually the case.
