I Hate Wikipedia[edit]

I should have known: I told other people that Wikipedia was a waste of time, since all of your work in writing an article could be deleted by a total stranger overnight -- or, even worse, that your own words might be mangled into saying the opposite of what you meant. So along comes Richard Arthur Norton, and deletes the entire article, without a word of comment (on this page).

I don't think I'll be back. JaafarAbuTarab 15:59, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

yes, this is a problem. But the answer is to tell us what you have said on the talk-page, which cannot be deleted

Forgery[edit]

I was the only magician to correspond with Morton Smith. He had terrible handwriting. During our correspondence I asked Smith a number of classical historical questions that had been devised by renown historical researchers. I expected Smith to be familar with them. They went completely over his head and upset him. (Maybe it was my fault because I failed to identify the authors of these questions). Many times I had to explain later exactly what was meant. He was very understanding, kind, and informative. I have studied deception for about 40 years. I do not mean this in a derogitory way, but I do not think Smith was that playful or had enough creativity to be a forgerer as has been charged by Stephen Carlson and possibly others. I think these charges are false and are the product of a wild imagination, apophenia. Kazuba (talk) 21:42, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recently came out a female scholar, certain Sara Hermon, that has written a book " The Galileus Gospel" (italian language). She claims to have been a pupil of prof. Morton Smith, maybe by mailing because she lived in Europe and not in USA; anyway, it seems they met sometimes in England many years ago. We don't know if Hermon's book is fiction or reality, but it's amazing how many similarities the novel shows, compared to Smith hypothesis about the missing and secret Mark gospel. Personal life[edit]

More about Smith's personal life, please. Was he a homosexual, married? Was a he a Jew, a Christian, what denomination? What else did he publish? Did he regard his career as successful? What other scholars did he teach or influence? 86.152.9.150 (talk) 09:44, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Check out the topic "Secret Gospel of Mark", under the section "Forgery?", the sixth paragraph. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.27.30.63 (talk) 20:16, 23 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Biography ... hearsay on Smith's dedication vs time to protect forgery[edit]

The biography section currently says:

"He was said to have devoted fifteen years of his life to just studying his finding of the Secret Gospel.[3]"

He "was said" by whom? Himself? This could arguably be written as "He was said to have devoted fifteen years to protecting his own forgery from detection. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:CCD8:AB80:B8C9:4544:8181:959E (talk) 01:30, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Duplication[edit]

Given that the Mar Saba letter has its own page perhaps the section here could be shortened. Jackiespeel (talk) 10:25, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
