Series finale[edit]

In the discussion of the four-season story arc, the author discusses the three-parter where Mork, Mindy and Mearth were on the run from a villanous alien from another planet. For years, I too thought this was the series finale. But just now I checked the episode guide on TV.com (as well as the list on TV IV, the Wikipedia spinoff) and both list an additional episode: "The Mork Report," airing May 27, 1982. From the TV.com description, this sounds like a fairly standard episode--which wouldn't make sense, since the three-parter ended with Mork & Mindy spinningly endlessly through time and space.

Can someone clear up the confusion? Is this a typo on both pages? Or perhaps ABC delayed airing the episode for some reason and aired it out of sequence? -- TomakaLinus 17:55, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The List of Mork & Mindy episodes currently footnotes that “The Mork Report” was filmed before “Gotta Run”, which was intended to be the Season 4 cliffhanger to prepare for Season 5. “But because the of the show’s cancellation”, “Gotta Run” aired first from May 6-20 in 1982, with “The Mork Report” following as the actual series finale on the 27th “to give the series appropriate closure.” —Glenn L (talk) 19:27, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Err... just tried to move it, but couldn't because Mork & Mindy exists as a redirect page. Furthermore, looking into the history of the pages, I see the article was "moved" from Mork and Mindy to Mork & Mindy, and then back again to Mork and Mindy! So perhaps this is controversial. I also agree. The logo as it appears on the DVD covers near the bottom of the article is identical to how the logo appeared on the actual show. The only MOS-related line I could find about the ampersand was about its use in headers, and states, "In place of an ampersand (&) use the word and, unless the ampersand is part of a formal name." I couldn't find any comments related to the ampersand in the naming conventions, and this appears to be the official name of the show, so I support this move. This sentence needs some help.

Either the word when needs removed or there's something missing.

There's some varied speculations surrounding how the name MORK was conceived. Several colleagues have told me that it comes from "MO"ron and do"RK" came together as the writers were driving their thoughts for this show. The episode is the 14th episode of Season 3, “Mork Meets Robin Williams”, which originally aired on February 19, 1981. Since Williams already starred as Mork and the two looked alike, there was no real reason to mention the cameo appearance since it’s in the episode title.—Glenn L (talk) 19:41, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for help writing an article about the spin-offs and crossovers of this series[edit]

I am writing an article about all of the series which are in the same shared reality as this one through spin-offs and crossovers. I could use a little help expanding the article since it is currently extremely dense and a bit jumbled with some sentence structures being extremely repetitive. I would like to be able to put this article into article space soon. Any and all help in writing the article would be appreciated, even a comment or two on the talk page would help. Spin-Off, Really?[edit]

Any time the origin of Mork & Mindy is brought up, the notion that it is a spin-off of Happy Days invariably comes up. It is also always stated that Mork & Mindy came about due to the popularity of the character in his appearance on Happy Days. For anyone who has actually seen the episode in question however, it is extremely clear that the only reason this episode exists in the first place is to act as a launch platform for the character. Mork even says to Fonzie as he's leaving that he intends to travel forward in time to the 70's. This was a very common method to launching a new series back then. The same method was used to create the series Laverne & Shirley, Out of the Blue and Blansky's Beauties. I would have thought that the launch episode appearance would be partly to test audience reaction to the character. Perhaps if the audience hated the character, the spin-off would not have proceeded? (Unless it was already scheduled to start filming the next week and its production was already assured at the time of Mork's Happy Days appearance.) The Golden Girls had a similar spin off/ pilot, Empty Nests but it was poorly received and the lead couple in that were dropped in favour of a new main cast for the actual Empty Nest spinoff. (Of course the other reason to have Mork guest on Happy Days first would be to act as a big avertisement for the new show with a captive audience.) Format (talk) 19:17, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I certainly agree that the episode was used as a test bed. I also agree that if the network had recieved a negative response to Mork, or unusually bad ratings for the episode, the Mork & Mindy series would have to be re-evaluated. Yes it is a valid point. To say the spinoff started because of Mork's popularity in the one off Happy Days guest shot makes it appear he was simply a guest character, who was surprisingly popular, so they then decided to launch a spinoff. However it seems clear they were planning a series with Williams already, and simply gave him a test/cross-promotion appearance on Happy Days as part of the launch strategy. Mork Not a dream in Happy days episode[edit]

"The series was a spinoff from the sitcom Happy Days. The character of Mork (then-unknown Robin Williams) first appeared in the season 5 episode "My Favorite Orkan" (a take on 1960s sitcom My Favorite Martian) where he attempts to take Richie Cunningham back to Ork as a human specimen, but his plan is foiled by Fonzie (though this all turned out to be only a dream Richie had)."

In the original standalone episode, the ending involved Richie answering a knock at the door and freaking out at discovering "Mork," who puzzledly explained that he was a trucker whose rig had broken down and he just wanted to use the phone; the implication was that the whole experience had been a dream. The ending was eventually re-edited to add a scene showing the trucker after Richie closed the door; he did the "Mork calling Orson" line and announced that he had successfully made it to Earth. It's a problem, because it totally spoils the show. What if an interested person learning about Robin Williams reads it and goes "Hey what's the point of watching the show now if I already know how it ends?" EXACTLY.
